Late June through early September offers the warmest weather, open forest service roads, and peak access to campgrounds, boat launches, and the hot springs. July and August bring the busiest conditions at the lakeside sites, so midweek arrivals help with space. In May and June, spawning Rainbow trout can be seen in the inlet and outlet creeks of Whiteswan Lake, making late spring a strong shoulder season for anglers. September cools quickly at elevation and snow can arrive early, so RVers should watch forecasts before heading in.

Lussier Hot Springs is a series of natural riverside pools near the western boundary of the park. Visitors can relax in the soothing waters of Lussier Hot Springs located near the park entrance at the 17.5 km marker on the Whiteswan forest service road. A short, steep trail leads from the parking area down to the pools. bcparks.ca/whiteswan-lake-park/
Whiteswan Lake is one of the East Kootenays' top trout fisheries. Visitors may use one of the 3 available boat launches to enjoy angling in some of the East Kootenays' most productive lakes, and Whiteswan Lake Park is renowned for its high quality rainbow trout sports fishery. A BC freshwater fishing licence is required. bcparks.ca/recreation/fishing/
Alces Lake is the smaller, quieter of the park's two main lakes and a prime spot for canoeing and wildlife viewing. Visitors may watch a moose feeding in the fog-shrouded water of Alces Lake and admire spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains. Motor size restrictions apply, favoring paddlers and small craft.
The north shore trail travels through a Douglas-fir forest and provides views of Whiteswan Lake and surrounding mountains. The total one-way distance is 8 km from the Alces Lake campground to Home Basin campground, with a branch leading to Cave Creek campground. The route is suitable for families and connects several of the lakeshore campgrounds. bcparks.ca/whiteswan-lake-park/
The surrounding back roads and forests offer excellent big-game and bird watching. Exploring the back roads of the Kootenay Ranges offers sightings of mountain goats and bighorn sheep, moose, elk, deer, grizzly and black bears, while common loons, red-necked grebes, belted kingfishers, blue herons, bald and golden eagles, and many other bird species can be seen on the lakes and in the surrounding woodlands. Carry bear spray and keep a safe distance. bcparks.ca/whiteswan-lake-park/
Whiteswan Lake Park maintains multiple boat launches for anglers and paddlers. The park offers three boat launches serving the two mountain lakes. Trailer access is possible, though road width and gravel surfaces require careful towing. bcparks.ca/whiteswan-lake-park/
The Whiteswan access road continues east to the trailhead for Top of the World Provincial Park, reached via the White Swan and Lussier Forest Service Roads. Access is via the same turnoff from Highway 93/95 4.5 km south of Canal Flats, continuing past Whiteswan Lake on backcountry forest service roads. A high-clearance tow vehicle is recommended; leave the RV at Whiteswan. bcparks.ca/top-of-the-world-park/
