Late spring through early fall, roughly May to October, offers the most comfortable weather and the fullest schedule of living-history programming at Martin's Station. Summer brings warm, humid days ideal for trail walking and reenactment events, while October delivers peak fall color across the Cumberland Mountains. Shoulder months like April and early November are quieter and cooler, good for RV travel without summer crowds, though some interpretive programs may be limited. Winter visits are possible but expect cold, damp conditions and reduced services.

Martin's Station is a reconstructed 1775 frontier fort where costumed interpreters demonstrate 18th-century life on the Wilderness Road. Walk through the stockade, watch blacksmithing and musket demonstrations, and learn about pioneer travel. Seasonal reenactment weekends draw RVers from across the region.

Indian Ridge Trail is a wooded footpath that climbs gently from the historic area into the surrounding forest. It offers shaded walking and views across the Powell Valley. Expect natural surface and moderate elevation change.
The Pinnacle Overlook in adjacent Cumberland Gap National Historical Park delivers one of the best panoramas in the southern Appalachians, with three states visible on clear days. The drive up is paved and scenic. RVs over 20 feet are discouraged on the narrow Pinnacle road, so consider toad vehicles. nps.gov/cuga/planyourvisit/pinnacle-overlook.htm
Hensley Settlement is a preserved early-20th-century mountain community accessible by ranger-led shuttle or a strenuous hike in Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. Wilderness Road State Park, VA, United States
The park is off U.S. Route 58 near Ewing, Virginia, about 25 miles west of Jonesville and roughly an hour's drive (about 55 miles) from Kingsport, Tennessee. Knoxville, Tennessee is the nearest major city and fly-and-rent hub, approximately 90 miles and just over two hours away via I-75 and US-25E. RV drivers heading from Kentucky on US-25E should be aware of the Cumberland Gap Tunnel, which has posted height and hazardous-material restrictions, so check clearance before entering. Route 58 through Lee County includes curving, hilly sections typical of southern Appalachian highways, so plan for slower travel with larger rigs.
