Late June through early October is the prime window, when the access road is open, trails are dry, and summit views are clearest. Late September to early October brings peak foliage across the surrounding hills and is the busiest time for day-use visitors. May and early June are quieter shoulder weeks but can be muddy on upper trails. The park typically closes for the winter season once snow arrives, so RV trips are best planned spring through fall.

The Winslow Trail is the shortest route to the 2,937-foot summit of Mount Kearsarge, climbing about 1.1 miles one way from the park's summit picnic area. The rocky upper section opens to wide ledges and a fire tower with 360-degree views. Expect steep, rooted sections near the top.
The Barlow Trail offers a longer, more gradual ascent to the Mount Kearsarge summit at about 1.7 miles one way. It is a good descent option to create a loop with the Winslow Trail and is generally less steep underfoot. Trailhead parking is at the park's main upper lot.
The open picnic field near the upper parking lot is the hub of the park, with tables, grills, and a covered shelter set against mountain views. It is a popular stop for RV day-trippers who want a scenic lunch without committing to a full hike.
The historic fire tower on Mount Kearsarge sits on open bedrock above treeline and delivers panoramic views of Lake Sunapee, the White Mountains, and the Green Mountains of Vermont on clear days. It is reached only by hiking the Winslow or Barlow trails. Bring a wind layer; the summit is exposed.
Winslow State Park is one of central New Hampshire's top foliage destinations in late September and early October. The elevated picnic area and summit ledges give sweeping views of color across the Merrimack Valley. Arrive early on weekends, the upper lot fills quickly.
The mixed northern hardwood and spruce-fir forest on Kearsarge supports songbirds, hawks, and occasional moose and black bear sightings. Quiet mornings at the picnic area and along the lower trails are the best times to spot wildlife. Bring binoculars for raptor watching from the summit.

Winslow State Park, NH, United States
The park is reached via Kearsarge Valley Road and Kearsarge Mountain Road from the village of Wilmot, about 10 minutes off Interstate 89 at Exit 10. Concord is roughly 35 miles and a 45-minute drive southeast, and Manchester is about 55 miles southeast, roughly an hour and 15 minutes. The final mile of the park access road is narrow, steep, and winding with tight switchbacks near the summit parking area, so very large motorhomes and long trailers should use caution or stage at a lower lot. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT).
