Hikers can access the Boreal Trail, a 135-kilometre route and the only year-round destination backpacking trail in the Saskatchewan Provincial Park system, with designated backcountry campsites along its length. Pierce Lake Lodge sits at the 24-kilometre marker of the Boreal Trail, making it a practical trailhead or resupply stop. Shorter groomed trails, picnic areas, paddling on quiet bays, and wildlife viewing round out the options for day trips from any of the nearby campgrounds.

The camping season is short and concentrated. Most provincial park campgrounds and private lodges in the area operate from the May long weekend through Labour Day, with limited shoulder-season availability. Pierce Lake Lodge operates roughly May through September, which is typical for the region. July and August are peak months, drawing families to the beaches at Howe Bay, Sandy Beach, and Murray Doell. Weekends in high summer fill quickly, and long weekends often sell out within hours of the daily reservation opening. June offers warm days with fewer crowds but more biting insects, while September brings cooler nights, colour change, and quieter campgrounds before most services close. Winter access to the area exists for ice fishing and snowmobiling, but serviced RV camping is not available. Wildfire closures have affected northern Saskatchewan parks in recent seasons, so travellers should check park status with Sask Parks before departing.

Access is by paved and gravel highways through boreal forest, with cell coverage patchy once off Highway 55. Pierce Lake Lodge is reached from Highway 950 via Pierceland and the Howe Bay subdivision; register at the lodge store on arrival. Site services vary. Pierce Lake Lodge offers 55 campsites total: 21 sites with 15-amp power and water, 11 sites with 15-amp power only, and 23 non-powered sites, each with a fire pit and picnic table, plus showers, a dump station, and a convenience store. Provincial park campgrounds in the area typically provide electric-only hookups at many sites, potable water, showers, and a central sani-dump rather than full hookups at every site. Expect bears in the region: store food securely, use provided lockers where available, and keep sites clean.
