Campgrounds and RV parks near North Fond du Lac, WI

Lake Winnebago dominates the local recreation map. The lake and its connected waters, including Lake Butte des Morts, Lake Winneconne, Lake Poygan, and the Wolf and Fox rivers, form one of the state's busiest inland boating areas. Anglers target walleye, white bass, perch, and lake sturgeon depending on the season, and public boat launches are spread along the shoreline. High Cliff State Park on the northeast shore offers hiking along the Niagara Escarpment with overlooks of the lake. Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac sits at the south end of the lake and includes a marina, playgrounds, and family attractions. The Kettle Moraine State Forest Northern Unit lies within a short drive east and offers hiking, mountain biking, and swimming lakes. Oshkosh hosts the EAA Aviation Museum year-round and the AirVenture fly-in each July, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors to the region.

The prime RV season in east-central Wisconsin runs from May through mid-October. Most private campgrounds in the Fond du Lac area open around May 1 and close after the fall color window in late October. Kalbus Country Harbor Inc. opens for the season on May 1. Weekday bookings remain flexible through spring and early fall, but weekends fill quickly once school lets out for summer. July is the busiest month by a wide margin. Camp Scholler opens from the last Friday in June through the Monday immediately after AirVenture, and the campground fills with aviation enthusiasts during the event. Regional campgrounds within a thirty-mile radius of Oshkosh commonly sell out for AirVenture week, so travelers not attending the event should plan around those dates. Winter camping options are limited. Only a handful of locations maintain plowed access during the cold months. Ice fishing shanties appear on Lake Winnebago in January and February when conditions allow, and the lake sturgeon spearing season draws crowds to the lake in February.

Sites near Lake Winnebago tend to be level and grassy, with electric hookups standard and full hookups common at the larger private parks. Kalbus Country Harbor Inc. offers roughly 66 sites with lake views, free Wi-Fi, modern bathrooms, showers, and laundry. The property covers about ten acres on the lake's western shoreline, and channel sites can accommodate boat mooring directly at the site; tent camping is not permitted. Cell coverage across the region is generally reliable, and most private campgrounds provide Wi-Fi, though speeds vary during peak weekends. Mosquitoes and biting flies are active from late May through August, especially near wetlands and after heavy rain. Firewood should be purchased locally to comply with Wisconsin's emerald ash borer quarantine rules. Quiet hours at most parks begin between 10 and 11 p.m.
