Sandbanks Provincial Park is a stunning coastal retreat located near Burgeo on the South Coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, approximately 150 km from the Trans-Canada Highway along Route 480. Named for its remarkable landscape, the park features 7 km of white sand spread across five expansive beaches — some of the finest on the island — framed by spruce-fir forest, open barrens, and over 100 nearby islands. Heron Pond offers a rare intertidal zone where freshwater and saltwater meet, adding ecological diversity to the setting. The park's 30 campsites accommodate mid-size RVs and include picnic tables, fire grills, and firewood. Facilities include toilets, laundry, a dump station, and a playground, making it well-suited for families. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore 4.5 km of hiking trails, swim in both saltwater and freshwater, canoe, sea kayak, or beachcomb along the shoreline. The park is also an important bird migration corridor and nesting habitat for the endangered Piping Plover. With stargazing potential, minimal light pollution, and dramatic coastal scenery, Sandbanks Provincial Park delivers an authentic Newfoundland wilderness experience on the island's remote and beautiful south coast.
