Tucson Convention Center, Tucson, AZ, US

Tucson is easily reached by RV via Interstate 10, which runs directly through the heart of the city from both the west (coming from Los Angeles or Phoenix) and the east (coming from El Paso or New Mexico). From I-10 traveling eastbound toward downtown, take exit 257A for Congress Street and head east toward Church Avenue, where the Tucson Convention Center sits at 260 S. Church Avenue. From I-10 westbound, take exit 258B for Congress Street and follow the signs into downtown Tucson. For your RV, the smartest approach is to park at Sentinel Peak RV Park at 450 N. Grande Avenue, about a mile from the convention center, and use the park's free shuttle or Tucson's Sun Link streetcar to reach the venue without navigating downtown traffic in a large rig. Fuel up and top off your water tanks before arriving in the city, since the show's mid-February timing is peak season in Tucson and service stations near the convention center can be busy.

Thor was amazing. It really was like home on the road. The drive was smooth and felt safe. It was clean and in order when picked up. Even had sheets when we realized ours were a bit snug. Bill was friendly, understanding, and explained everything thoroughly and in a timely manner. We did drive through the night our last day since we were missing our babies at home and realized that the rear cameras were of little help even though they were supper helpful during the day. Might have been the dust build up though. 10/10

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV for Tucson Gem and Mineral Show

When does the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show take place and how many days does it run?

Great news: the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show fits perfectly into a long-weekend RV trip. The main show at the Tucson Convention Center typically runs four days in mid-February, Thursday through Sunday, with doors open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. most days (closing at 4 p.m. on Sunday). It anchors the larger Tucson Gem, Mineral and Fossil Showcase, which stretches across Tucson from late January into mid-February, so there is plenty to explore before and after the main event. Check the TGMS website each fall for the exact dates and plan to arrive a day early to get settled in your RV and explore downtown Tucson before the crowds pour in.

How much does admission cost for the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show and where do I buy entry passes?

How do I get to the Tucson Convention Center with an RV and where should I park my rig?

Getting your RV to the Tucson Convention Center is straightforward. The venue sits at 260 S. Church Avenue in downtown Tucson, easily accessible from Interstate 10. Because downtown parking does not accommodate large rigs, the best strategy is to base yourself at Sentinel Peak RV Park (about a mile away at 450 N. Grande Avenue) and use the park's free shuttle or the Sun Link streetcar to reach the convention center. Plan to arrive mid-week before the weekend crowds, since Sentinel Peak is Tucson's only downtown RV park and fills quickly during the show. Mapping your route in advance and noting any low-clearance areas on the Congress Street corridor will make your arrival smooth and stress-free.

What can I expect to see and do at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show?

The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show is unlike any event you have attended before. The Tucson Convention Center fills 181,000 square feet with more than 200 vendors selling fine minerals, gemstones, fossils, high jewelry, lapidary crafts, and specialized publications. Guest and competitive exhibits display rare specimens from private and museum collections, including pieces of international renown. Lectures and seminars run Thursday through Saturday for enthusiasts at every level, and a junior education area in the Galleria brings earth sciences to life for younger visitors. What is the weather like in Tucson during the show and what should I pack?

February is one of Tucson's most pleasant months for travel. Expect sunny days with highs in the mid-60s to low 70s Fahrenheit (around 18 to 22 degrees Celsius) and cooler evenings that dip into the low 40s, so layering is the smart move. A light jacket for mornings and evenings, comfortable walking shoes for the convention center floors, and sunscreen for time outside are all essentials. Inside the Tucson Convention Center you will log a lot of steps, so bring a bag or small backpack for any specimens or purchases you make. A reusable water bottle keeps you hydrated throughout the day. The mild February weather also makes this a perfect moment to extend your RV trip into the Sonoran Desert for a hike before or after show days.

Is the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show family-friendly and suitable for children?

Absolutely, the show warmly welcomes families of all ages. Children 14 and under enter free with a paying adult, and the junior education area in the Galleria, staffed by University of Arizona students, gives kids hands-on access to minerals and earth science activities. Approximately 3,000 school-aged children visit through organized programs each year, reflecting how engaging the experience is for younger visitors. The open exhibition hall layout moves comfortably for strollers and wheelchairs. Bringing your family in an RV makes the trip even more relaxed: you can step out for naps, snacks, and rest breaks without losing a hotel room for the afternoon. Friday morning is reserved for school groups, so plan to arrive after noon if you prefer a calmer atmosphere with fewer organized student visits.

What food and drink options are available at or near the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show?

The Tucson Convention Center has on-site concessions to keep you fueled throughout the show. For a broader selection, downtown Tucson's restaurant scene puts hundreds of dining options within a short drive or Sun Link streetcar ride. Having an RV parked nearby at Sentinel Peak means you can take a midday break, head back to your rig, prepare your own meal in your own kitchen, and return refreshed without spending extra on busy-week restaurant prices. The show's mid-February timing brings Tucson's most comfortable outdoor dining weather, so plan a relaxed dinner on a patio after a full day on the show floor. Stocking your RV kitchen before the show week begins, when grocery stores are less hectic, keeps meals easy and cost-effective throughout your stay.

Are all RV types welcome near the Tucson Convention Center for the show, and are there size restrictions?

All major RV types are welcome in Tucson during the show. Class A motorhomes, Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheels, and toy haulers all find suitable accommodation at nearby parks. Sentinel Peak RV Park accepts rigs up to 70 feet long with full hookups and 30 and 50 amp service, which means even large Class A coaches fit comfortably. The Tucson Convention Center itself does not have on-site RV parking, so your rig stays at a nearby campground and you travel to the venue by shuttle or streetcar. If you are driving a larger rig, map your approach route into downtown in advance and note any tight turns on the Congress Street corridor to ensure a smooth arrival.
