September is a strong shoulder-season choice for RV travelers who want cooler nights, fewer bugs, and fall colour along the river valley. May and early June can be beautiful but wet, with soft ground in some sites and variable lake levels.

The park's main sand beach sits on Lake of the Prairies, a long reservoir formed by the Shellmouth Dam on the Assiniboine River. Shallow, warm-water swimming, picnic tables, and nearby washrooms make it a family-friendly stop for RV travelers. Parking near the day-use area accommodates tow vehicles and smaller RVs.
Lake of the Prairies is one of Manitoba's better-known walleye fisheries and also produces northern pike and perch. Anglers can launch at the park's boat ramp or fish from shore near the dam outflow. A valid Manitoba angling licence and conservation stamp are required.
Several short hiking trails trace the wooded slopes and coulees above the Shell and Assiniboine rivers. Routes pass through aspen parkland with viewpoints over the reservoir and the valley below. Most trailheads are within walking distance of the main campground.
A short drive south of the park, the Inglis Grain Elevators are the last standing row of traditional wooden prairie elevators in Canada, designated a National Historic Site. Self-guided and staffed tours explain the role of these structures in prairie agriculture. The site has ample vehicle parking suitable for RVs. parks.canada.ca/lhn-nhs/mb/inglis
The reservoir stretches more than 60 km along the Assiniboine valley, offering long open-water runs for powerboats and sheltered bays for kayaks and canoes. The park boat launch provides trailer access and day-use parking. Life jackets and boat-safety gear are required by Transport Canada.
The Shellmouth Dam impounds the Assiniboine River to create Lake of the Prairies and is a short drive from the park's main area. Viewpoints offer a look at the dam structure, downstream river, and surrounding valley. Interpretive signage explains the reservoir's role in flood control and irrigation.
Paved and gravel park roads connect the campground, beach, marina, and day-use areas, making for easy family cycling loops. Quiet traffic and gentle grades near the campground suit casual riders, while the climb out of the river valley offers a workout for stronger cyclists.

Asessippi Provincial Park, MB, Canada
The park is in western Manitoba off PTH 83, roughly a 15 to 20 minute drive north of Russell and about a 4 hour drive (around 360 km) northwest of Winnipeg. From Saskatchewan, Yorkton is about a 1.5 hour drive west. Roads in are paved prairie highways with no tunnels or mountain passes, so most RV classes can reach the park without issue, though the descent into the Shell River valley includes moderate grades and sharp curves near the park gate. The nearest major airports for fly-and-rent trips are Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International (YWG) and Regina International (YQR).
