Spring and fall, roughly March through May and late September through November, offer the most comfortable weather, with warm days, cool nights, and fewer crowds at the pool. Summer is peak season because the spring water stays cool year-round, but daytime highs often exceed 95°F and the campground and pool fill quickly. Winter is quiet and mild during the day, with chilly nights and occasional freezes. RV travelers should reserve campsites well ahead for weekends and holidays during warm months.

The San Solomon Springs pool is the centerpiece of Balmorhea State Park and one of the largest spring-fed swimming pools in the world. Fed by artesian springs, the water stays in the mid-70s Fahrenheit year-round, making it popular for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Day-use parking is close to the pool and accessible to RV travelers.
This restored desert wetland showcases the natural cienega habitat that once surrounded the springs. A short boardwalk lets visitors view native fish, turtles, and birdlife up close. It is a quick, family-friendly stop with parking near the pool area.
Certified divers can explore the deep end of the spring pool, which reaches about 25 feet and features rocky ledges and aquatic life. Divers must bring their own gear and certification. The pool is one of the few inland dive sites in Texas.
Balmorhea is an oasis for desert wildlife and migrating birds in the Chihuahuan Desert. Visitors often spot waterfowl, herons, and native pupfish around the cienega and canals. Bring binoculars for early-morning viewing near the campground.
Self-guided walks showcase the stonework, bathhouse, and San Solomon Springs Courts built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Interpretive signs explain the park's New Deal history. Paths around the pool area are mostly flat and easy.
The park sits in one of the darkest regions of the lower 48 states, with minimal light pollution across the Trans-Pecos. On clear nights campers can view the Milky Way directly from their RV sites. Bring a red-light flashlight to protect night vision.
Davis Mountains State Park lies about 35 miles south via SH 17 and offers cooler mountain scenery, scenic drives, and the nearby McDonald Observatory. It pairs well with a Balmorhea base camp for RV travelers exploring the region. The route is paved and RV-friendly.
