Late spring through early fall is the most popular window, with May, June, and September offering warm days, cooler nights, and fewer biting insects than midsummer. July and August bring peak swimming weather at Lake Absegami but also the largest crowds and the highest mosquito and tick activity in the Pine Barrens. Shoulder months in April and October are ideal for RV travel with mild temperatures, open campground loops, and quieter trails. Winter visits are possible for day use, but many facilities and loops operate on a reduced schedule.

Lake Absegami is a 67-acre cedar-water lake with a designated guarded swimming beach during the summer season. The beach area has restrooms, picnic tables, and a concession, with paved parking close to the campground.
The Absegami Natural Area Trail is a short interpretive loop through Atlantic white cedar swamp and Pine Barrens forest. The walk is flat, easy, and well-signed, making it suitable for most visitors.
The park's color-blazed trail system provides several miles of hiking and mountain biking through pitch pine and oak forest. Routes are mostly flat over sandy soil and connect to the broader Pine Barrens trail network.
Lake Absegami is open to canoes, kayaks, and small non-motorized boats launched from the day-use area. Rentals are typically available in summer, and the calm tea-colored water is well suited to beginners.
Anglers fish Lake Absegami and surrounding Pine Barrens streams for largemouth bass, pickerel, sunfish, and catfish. A valid New Jersey freshwater fishing license is required for anglers age 16 and older.
Bass River sits at the southern end of the long-distance Batona Trail, which crosses the heart of the Pine Barrens. Day hikers can sample flat, sandy sections from park trailheads before returning to camp.
The park's mix of pine forest, cedar swamp, and lake shoreline supports a wide range of birds including warblers, woodpeckers, and waterfowl. Early mornings near Lake Absegami and the natural area are productive viewing times.

We had a great experience with RV Cozy Camper. The camper truly lived up to its name — it was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, making our trip relaxing and enjoyable. Everything we needed was thoughtfully provided, and the layout made the space feel welcoming and functional. It was easy to tow and set up, which helped take a lot of stress out of the trip. The attention to detail really showed and made us feel comfortable right away. Communication was smooth and helpful, and any questions we had were answered promptly. Overall, this was a wonderful experience, and we would absolutely recommend RV Cozy Camper to anyone looking for a reliable and comfortable camping option. We would happily use RV Cozy Camper again for future trips!

Bass River State Park, NJ, United States
The park sits just off the Garden State Parkway near exit 52 in New Gretna, about 25 miles north of Atlantic City and roughly 45 to 55 miles east of Philadelphia, a one-hour drive in light traffic. From New York City, plan on about 100 miles and roughly two hours via the Garden State Parkway. The route is generally flat with no mountain passes or low tunnels, but the final approach uses narrow Pine Barrens roads with soft sandy shoulders, so larger RVs should stay on paved surfaces and watch for tight turns near the campground entrance. Atlantic City International Airport is the closest commercial airport for fly-and-rent travelers, with Philadelphia International Airport another common option.
