Bodine Field Campground sits within Wharton State Forest, New Jersey's largest state forest, nestled in the heart of the Pine Barrens near Hammonton. Positioned along the scenic Wading River, this group-oriented campground is the largest in the forest and offers a peaceful, wooded retreat for outdoor enthusiasts. Water hookups and on-site toilets provide basic comfort, while picnic tables and fire rings are available at most sites. Seven group camping areas accommodate parties ranging from small gatherings to groups of up to 100 people. Adventure abounds in every direction: the campground sits along the famed Batona Trail, a 50-plus-mile footpath winding through the Pine Barrens, and a boat launch on the western side makes it a popular stopover for canoeists paddling the Wading River. Anglers, swimmers, horseback riders, and hunters also find plenty of opportunity throughout the surrounding forest. Wildlife watchers can spot eagles, hawks, owls, and other native birds among the towering pines. Wharton State Forest's remote, unspoiled character makes Bodine Field an ideal base camp for exploring southern New Jersey's unique Pinelands landscape, a nationally recognized reserve just a short drive from Atlantic City and Philadelphia.
