Late June through August offers the warmest water, reliable beach weather, and the full schedule of ranger programs at the Saginaw Bay Visitor Center. May and September are strong shoulder-season choices for RV travelers who want milder temperatures, fewer crowds, and easier campground reservations. Spring and fall are also peak periods for migratory birding at Tobico Marsh. Winters are cold and snowy, and most camping amenities are closed.

The park's main day-use beach runs along the southwest shore of Saginaw Bay and offers sand, shallow water, and picnic areas. Lifeguards are not provided, and water depth varies seasonally with Great Lakes levels. Paved parking makes drop-off easy for RV travelers staying in the campground.
Tobico Marsh is a large protected coastal wetland adjacent to the campground and is accessed by trails and observation towers. The marsh is one of the premier birding sites on Saginaw Bay, with waterfowl, herons, and migrating songbirds. Two observation towers provide elevated views across the marsh.
This accessible interpretive trail and boardwalk loop connects the campground area to Tobico Marsh through woods and wetland habitat. The path is mostly flat and suitable for all ages. Interpretive signs highlight local plant and animal communities.
The visitor center features exhibits on the ecology of Saginaw Bay, including wetlands, fisheries, and Great Lakes geology. Seasonal ranger programs and school group activities take place throughout summer. The center is a good rainy-day option for families.
Two observation towers overlook Tobico Marsh and provide panoramic views for spotting bald eagles, osprey, herons, and migrating ducks. Spring and fall migrations are the most active periods. Bring binoculars and a spotting scope for best results.
Paved paths through the park connect to the regional Bay Hampton Rail Trail system, offering miles of easy cycling on flat terrain. Riders can continue toward Bay City or along the bay shoreline. The routes are suitable for families and casual cyclists.
Anglers fish Saginaw Bay from shore and from nearby launches for walleye, perch, and smallmouth bass. A Michigan fishing license is required for anyone 17 or older. Ice fishing is popular in winter, but the campground itself is closed in the coldest months.
Benjamin and Carrie(?) are an amazing couple. Very friendly and their camper was beautifully kept and cleaned. Plenty of space for the family and tons of additional options in the camper. I will definitely be renting from Benjamin again!!

Ben and his wife are amazing people. The camper is exactly as advertised. Very clean, everything works great and fully stocked. We had a great time and this rental is by far the best rental experience we've had.

Bay City State Park, MI, United States
The park sits about 5 miles north of downtown Bay City off I-75 via Beaver Road, roughly 15 minutes from Bay City, 30 minutes from Saginaw, and about 2 hours north of Detroit. Access roads are flat paved two-lane routes with no tunnels, mountain passes, or steep grades, which makes the approach straightforward for large RVs and trailers. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is MBS International Airport in Freeland, about 30 minutes away, with Detroit Metropolitan Airport as a larger alternative roughly 2 hours south. Drivers should watch for standard Michigan seasonal weight restrictions on some secondary county roads in late winter and early spring.
