Late spring through early fall, roughly May to September, offers the driest weather, longest daylight, and the warmest temperatures for beach walks and birdwatching on Padilla Bay. April brings the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, which is a major draw but means crowded weekends and full campgrounds, so reservations are essential. Shoulder months like October and March are quieter and good for migratory bird viewing, though rain and cool temperatures are common. Winter stays are possible but expect frequent rain, short days, and limited services.

The park provides direct access to roughly 1,285 feet of Padilla Bay saltwater frontage. Visitors can walk the beach at low tide, look for shorebirds, and take in views toward the San Juan Islands. A picnic area and day-use parking sit just above the shore.
This level 2.25 mile dike-top trail (4.5 miles round trip) follows the bay just south of the park and is part of the Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. It is a flat, easy walk popular for birdwatching and sunset views. Trailhead parking on Bayview-Edison Road accommodates standard vehicles and most smaller RVs.
The Breazeale Interpretive Center is the visitor and education hub of the Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, located a short drive north of the park. It features estuary exhibits, aquariums, and short upland trails. Parking includes spaces suitable for RVs and tow vehicles.
Each April the Skagit Valley fills with commercial tulip and daffodil fields just minutes from the park. Visitors drive a self-guided loop between farms such as RoozenGaarde and Tulip Town. Expect heavy traffic and limited large-vehicle parking on peak weekends.
State Route 11 north from Bay View climbs along forested bluffs above Samish Bay with frequent ocean overlooks. The route is a classic Pacific Northwest coastal drive but is narrow and winding, so it is better suited to tow vehicles or smaller RVs than to large motorhomes.
The historic waterfront town of La Conner is about 15 minutes south on the Swinomish Channel. It offers shops, restaurants, and the Museum of Northwest Art. Public RV parking is limited in town, so day-trippers often park on the outskirts and walk in.
Padilla Bay's eelgrass flats are a major stopover for migratory waterfowl and shorebirds, including brant, dunlin, and great blue herons. Fall and winter are particularly productive for waterfowl viewing. Spotting scopes set up at the park's bluff-top picnic area work well for distant flocks.
Very friendly and accommodating host. The camper was in great shape. Thanks so much for making our trip that much better. Will definitely rent again in the future. Highly recommended 👍.

Ryan's RV was perfect for our weekend. We needed overflow space for family gathering for Thanksgiving & Ryan's RV was great! It's very spacious. Lots of space to spread out. When renting, be mindful of having enough space to open both popouts. It gives the RV a very open feel, but you cannot use the RV without opening the popouts. The full bedroom in the back with THREE beds is so great for families with kids -- lots of space for their bags & things. Lastly, definitely be mindful of closing the closet door completely when packing up the RV, as this can cause damage when opening the popouts. All in all, an excellent stay! Ryan was very responsive & super easy to deal with.

Bay View State Park, WA, United States
The park sits off Bayview-Edison Road near SR 11 (Chuckanut Drive), about a 10 to 15 minute drive (roughly 7 miles) from Mount Vernon and exit 230 on Interstate 5. From Seattle it is about 70 miles north, a 90 minute drive in normal traffic, and from Bellingham it is about 25 miles south. RVers should note that Chuckanut Drive (SR 11) is a narrow, winding scenic route with tight curves and limited shoulders, so larger rigs may prefer the I-5 approach via Mount Vernon and Bayview-Edison Road. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Seattle-Tacoma International (SEA), with Bellingham International (BLI) as a smaller closer option.
