Spencer Spit State Park is a stunning coastal retreat on Lopez Island in Washington's San Juan Islands, where a rare sand spit encloses a saltwater lagoon surrounded by forest, ocean beach, and saltwater sandy shores. The park offers 37 standard reservable campsites plus 16 hiker/biker sites, with Cascadia Marine Trail sites for water-based arrivals and two group camps with shelter and kitchen facilities. Campers enjoy a full range of amenities including restrooms, drinking water, fire pits, picnic tables, grills, a trailer dump station, and three picnic shelters. Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activities: beach exploration, kayaking, paddleboarding, crabbing, fishing, scuba diving, shellfishing, swimming, windsurfing, and bird watching are all popular pursuits. Two miles of flat trails wind through the park for wildlife viewing, and moorage buoys accommodate visiting boaters. An on-site Outdoor Adventure Center rents sea kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and bicycles from May through Labor Day. Interpretive programs run during summer months, adding an educational element to the natural experience. Reservations can be made through the Washington State Parks online booking system. A Discover Pass is required for vehicle access.
