Late June through early September offers the warmest, driest weather and the most reliable access to Nova Scotia's day-use provincial parks. July and August are peak season, with long daylight hours ideal for picnicking and short walks. September into early October brings cooler temperatures, fewer bugs, and colourful fall foliage across the Acadian forest. Spring visits can be muddy, and most Nova Scotia day-use parks operate seasonally, with facilities closed outside the warm months.

Short walking paths through mixed Acadian forest are the main on-site activity at Beaver Mountain Provincial Park. Expect level to gently rolling terrain under spruce, fir, and hardwood canopy.
The park's day-use area provides a shaded spot for a roadside picnic break off Highway 104. It is a convenient stop for RV travellers moving between Halifax, Antigonish, and the Canso Causeway.
The wooded setting supports songbirds, woodpeckers, and small mammals typical of inland Nova Scotia. Early morning and evening are the best times for quiet observation.
In late September and early October the surrounding hardwoods turn vivid red, orange, and yellow. Beaver Mountain pairs well with a scenic drive along the Antigonish highlands and Sunrise Trail.
The university town of Antigonish is about 15 kilometres east and offers restaurants, shops, and the historic St. Francis Xavier University campus. It makes an easy half-day pairing with a stop at the park.
The park is well placed as a staging stop before crossing the Canso Causeway onto Cape Breton Island. Visitors can combine a forest walk here with a drive to Port Hastings, the Ceilidh Trail, or the Cabot Trail.

Beaver Mountain Provincial Park, NS, Canada
The park sits just off Highway 104 (the Trans-Canada Highway) in Antigonish County, about 15 kilometres west of the town of Antigonish. From Halifax, plan on roughly a 2 to 2.5 hour drive northeast via Highway 102 and Highway 104, covering about 190 kilometres. From the Canso Causeway and Cape Breton Island, the park is about 60 kilometres (roughly 45 minutes) west on Highway 104. RV drivers should watch for rolling grades on Highway 104, narrow shoulders on the secondary access roads into the park, and should plan fuel stops in Antigonish, New Glasgow, or Port Hawkesbury. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ).
