Spring and fall, roughly March through May and October through November, are the best windows for RV travel. Temperatures are mild, humidity is lower, and mosquitoes are less active than in peak summer. Summer brings warm river swimming and tubing but also heat, afternoon thunderstorms, and higher humidity. Winter is mild and quiet, making it a good shoulder-season option for snowbirds heading across the Panhandle.
Cool and quiet; good for shoulder-season RV travel
Mild and pleasant; paddling picks up
Warm days, great river swimming
Hot, humid, frequent afternoon thunderstorms
Peak season; book well in advance
Heat and storms continue; hurricane season active
Tropical systems possible; monitor forecasts
Dry, comfortable; excellent RV weather
Cool nights; snowbird season begins
The park is a prime launch point for canoe and kayak trips on the Blackwater River. Paddlers float past white sandbars and cypress stands in tea-colored water.
Large white sandbars along the river create natural swimming beaches. The shallow, clear flow over clean sand is ideal for families and a signature experience of the park.
This short loop trail passes through floodplain forest to oxbow lakes left behind by the river. It is a quiet walk with interpretive signage near the day-use area.
The park provides access to a forested footpath that follows the river corridor and links with trails in the adjoining state forest. Shaded pine and hardwood canopy makes it comfortable in warmer months.
The slow, shallow current of the Blackwater River is well suited to tubing on hot days. Local outfitters near the park rent tubes and provide shuttle service.
Anglers target largemouth bass, bream, and catfish in the river and adjoining oxbow lakes. A valid Florida freshwater fishing license is required for adults.
Covered pavilions and picnic tables sit under a canopy of live oaks near the river. RV-friendly parking and restrooms make this an easy base for a day visit.
We absolutely loved staying in John's RV. If you are worried about the AC not being cold enough, have no fear, it works wonderfully even in Florida's heat. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your wonderful RV. If we need to rent again, we will absolutely be reaching out.

Matt and Judy are awesome people. They delivered the trailer on time and set up quickly. Gave us a complete tour and had an informative how to guide. They were very flexible with pick up times, arrived on time and were very efficient with take down of trailer. They even helped me with loading generator and some other things. Would definitely rent from them again.

Blackwater River State Park, FL, United States
The park is reached via Deaton Bridge Road off U.S. Highway 90, about 15 miles northeast of Milton and roughly an hour (about 45 miles) east of Pensacola. Tallahassee is approximately a three-hour drive east on Interstate 10, and Mobile, Alabama is about 90 minutes west. The route from I-10 is straightforward with no tunnels or mountain passes, but RVers should watch for a few narrow two-lane stretches on Deaton Bridge Road and low-clearance tree canopies near the campground loop. Pensacola International Airport (PNS) is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers.
