October through April is the most comfortable window, with mild daytime temperatures, cool mornings, and prime wildflower and cactus bloom from March into April. Summer visits require an early start, as midday temperatures routinely exceed 100°F and many trails offer limited shade. Fall shoulder season brings fewer crowds and easier RV parking. Winter days are crisp and sunny, ideal for snowbird RVers basing out of the Phoenix or Apache Junction area.

The Main Loop Trail is a 1.5-mile interpretive path that showcases the arboretum's signature plant collections and geological features. Highlights include the Cactus Garden, Eucalyptus Forest, Ayer Lake, and the suspension bridge over Queen Creek.
The High Trail climbs above the main loop to deliver panoramic views of Picketpost Mountain and the surrounding Sonoran Desert. It connects back to the main path and adds elevation for those wanting a longer outing.
The Curandero Trail focuses on ethnobotany and traditional medicinal uses of desert plants. Interpretive signage explains how Indigenous peoples and early settlers used native flora.
Ayer Lake is a small reservoir that supports endangered Gila topminnow and desert pupfish, along with migrating waterfowl. The surrounding riparian habitat is a prime spot for birdwatching.
The historic Smith Interpretive Center anchors the visitor experience with rotating exhibits and native plant demonstration gardens. It is a good first stop to orient new visitors.
Boyce Thompson is one of Arizona's premier birding destinations, with hundreds of species documented on site. Spring and fall migrations bring the greatest diversity.
Just west of the arboretum, the Picketpost Trailhead provides access to the Arizona National Scenic Trail. It offers a large gravel lot suitable for RVs and a long-distance hiking option for ambitious travelers.
This was our first time renting an RV. Eloy was thorough with his instructions on how to care for the RV upon pickup. This was much appreciated and helpful. He was extremely responsive throughout the process. The RV was immaculate inside and newly washed on the outside. The RV ran well and the trip was smooth. We could not have asked for a better experience! We look forward to using Adventure 48 again!

Boyce Thompson Arboretum, AZ, United States
The arboretum sits directly on U.S. Highway 60 about 55 miles east of Phoenix, roughly a one-hour drive, and about 12 miles west of Globe. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers. RVers heading east past the park toward Globe should be aware of the Queen Creek Tunnel and steep, winding grades through the Queen Creek Canyon, where large rigs and trailers should use low gears and watch for narrow shoulders. Westbound approaches from the Phoenix metro area via US 60 are straightforward with no tunnels or major grade restrictions.
