Late June through early September is the prime window, when warm days support boating, swimming, and fishing on the reservoir and all roads and ramps are open. July typically delivers the most reliable warm weather, though it is also the busiest period for shoreline campsites. May and September are good shoulder months for cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and easier site selection, but RV travelers should expect cold nights and the chance of spring snow squalls. Winter visits are limited, with strong wind, ice on the reservoir, and reduced services.

Boysen Reservoir is one of central Wyoming's largest bodies of water and a regional hub for motorboating, sailing, and water sports. Multiple boat ramps around the shoreline give RVers easy launch access from campground areas.
The reservoir is known for walleye, trout, perch, and ling fishing year-round. Anglers fish from boats, the dam area, and accessible shoreline near several developed campgrounds.
U.S. Highway 20 north from the park threads through the Wind River Canyon between towering cliffs and the river. The canyon sits at the mouth of Boysen Dam, with three short tunnels and pullouts for photos along the way.
Designated swim and day-use areas along the reservoir offer sandy beaches, picnic shelters, and shallow swimming during summer. Day-use lots accommodate larger vehicles and tow rigs.
The park's mix of sage flats, water, and canyon habitat draws pronghorn, mule deer, waterfowl, and raptors. Early morning and evening drives along park roads are productive for sightings.
About 25 miles north of Boysen at the other end of Wind River Canyon, Hot Springs State Park features free public mineral hot springs and a bison herd. It pairs naturally with a Boysen RV stay as a half-day side trip.
Boysen's remote central-Wyoming location and limited light pollution produce excellent dark skies. Open shoreline campsites give wide horizons for the Milky Way and meteor showers.

Boysen State Park, WY, United States
The park sits along U.S. Highway 20/26 between Shoshoni and Thermopolis in central Wyoming. From Casper it is roughly 100 miles (about 1 hour 45 minutes) west via U.S. 20/26, and from Riverton it is about 25 miles (around 30 minutes) east. RV drivers heading north from the park pass through the Wind River Canyon, a scenic but narrow two-lane corridor with three short rock tunnels, tight curves, and rock-fall zones, so wide rigs should drive slowly and stay centered. The closest commercial airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Riverton Regional Airport (RIW), with Casper/Natrona County International (CPR) as a larger alternative.
