Late June through early September offers the most reliable weather, with warm temperatures, long daylight hours, and the bison most active in the open pasture. July and August align with peak PEI tourism season, so pairing a visit with nearby beach parks is easy. May, early June, and September are excellent shoulder-season windows for RV travelers seeking quieter roads and cooler hiking conditions. Winter visits are possible since the site is unstaffed, but snow-covered access and limited visibility of the herd make warmer months preferable.

The main attraction is a raised wooden observation deck overlooking the fenced bison pasture. A short, flat trail from the parking area leads directly to the platform, making it accessible for most visitors. Bring binoculars, as the herd often grazes toward the back of the enclosure.
A brief forested path connects the parking area to the viewing platform through Acadian mixed woods. The walk takes only a few minutes each way and is suitable for families with young children. Watch for songbirds and white-tailed deer sign along the way.
About a 20 minute drive north, Panmure Island offers oceanfront beach access, a historic lighthouse, and a full-service provincial campground with RV sites. It makes a natural overnight base for visitors touring Buffaloland. Summer programming includes lighthouse tours and guided beach walks.
Montague, about 15 minutes west, is the commercial hub of eastern PEI with a scenic riverfront boardwalk, restaurants, and marina. It is a convenient stop for supplies, fuel, and a meal before or after visiting the bison. Seal-watching boat tours depart from the nearby Cardigan and Brudenell areas.
Buffaloland is a stop along the signed Points East Coastal Drive, a scenic touring route around Kings County. The loop links lighthouses, beaches, and fishing villages ideal for RV day trips. Allow a full day to drive the full circuit with stops.
Located roughly 25 minutes from Buffaloland, Brudenell River is one of PEI's premier destination parks with full-service RV camping, golf, kayaking, and trail networks. It is a popular base for exploring the Island's east end. Reservations are recommended during peak summer months.
About 30 minutes south of the park, Wood Islands features a restored lighthouse museum and the seasonal Northumberland Ferry terminal to Nova Scotia. The site is a useful fly-and-rent itinerary anchor for RVers continuing to Cape Breton. Parking accommodates larger rigs and trailers.

First time renting a trailer and had a great first experience. The owners provided so much more than what is listed in their listing. From small kitchen appliances, cleaning supplies, dish ware, down to dvds for the dvd player. I could not have rented from better hosts. You will not be disappointed.

Buffaloland Provincial Park, PE, Canada
Buffaloland Provincial Park sits along Route 4 near Milltown Cross, roughly a 15 minute drive from Montague and about 50 minutes (60 km) east of Charlottetown. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Charlottetown Airport (YYG). RV access is straightforward on paved provincial highways with no tunnels, mountain passes, or steep grades, though drivers towing larger rigs should note the Confederation Bridge toll and wind advisories when entering PEI from New Brunswick. There is a small roadside parking area at the park suitable for standard RVs; very large motorhomes may find maneuvering tight.
