Best time to visit Cathedral Provincial Park

July through September is the prime window for visiting Cathedral Provincial Park, when the alpine meadows are in bloom, trails are typically snow-free, and the Ashnola access road is in its best condition. Peak summer brings the warmest temperatures and reliable access to the core area, though reservations are required at Quiniscoe Lake Campground during this period. Visitors must be prepared for outdoor living and be aware that freezing temperatures and snow may occur during any month. Late spring and early fall are quieter shoulder seasons, but weather can turn quickly and some trails may still be closed due to wildfire damage.

How to get to Cathedral Provincial Park

Cathedral Provincial Park is reached from the small town of Keremeos in the South Okanagan, roughly a 4 to 5 hour drive from Vancouver and about 1 hour southwest of Penticton. Access is via Highway 3, and about 3 km west of Keremeos, the Ashnola Road leaves Highway 3 and crosses a red covered bridge. RV travelers should note that the Ashnola Forest Service Road is a narrow gravel route with limited turnarounds and is not recommended for large motorhomes or long trailers, and the covered bridge has height and weight restrictions. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Penticton Regional Airport, with Kelowna International Airport a longer alternative.
