July and August are the prime months for RV travel, with the warmest lake temperatures, open campground services and reliable access on Highway 3B. June and early September are good shoulder-season options for quieter campsites and cooler hiking weather. Because the park sits above 1,000 metres in the Selkirk Mountains, cooler temperatures and snowfalls can occur in May and September, so RVers should be prepared for frost at the shoulders of the season.

3rd Lake Main Beach is the park's primary day-use swimming area, with a buoyed wading zone and a swim float wharf. The lake is known for warm water in summer. RVers should note a sharp drop-off along the swim area and that no lifeguards are on duty. bcparks.ca/champion-lakes-park/
The 2nd Lake Loop is one of the park's popular trails, a roughly 2.5 km loop that takes about 45 minutes. It features several boardwalks, passes through old growth forest and offers scenic views of marsh grasslands and pond lilies. Trailheads include Campers Beach parking, beside campsite #82 and the 2nd Lake boat launch. bcparks.ca/champion-lakes-park/
Lookout Trail is a 750 m climb with a moderate to steep grade leading to picturesque views of the lakes below. The round trip takes 40 to 60 minutes depending on time at the viewpoint. It is the shortest way to earn a panoramic view of the Champion Lakes basin. bcparks.ca/champion-lakes-park/
Canoes, kayaks and rowboats are welcome on all three lakes, with boat launches on 3rd and 2nd Lake. Reaching 1st Lake requires a roughly 250 m portage from the 2nd Lake boat launch. Powered boats, including electric motors, are not allowed anywhere in the park. bcparks.ca/champion-lakes-park/
The Champion Lakes are stocked with rainbow trout and 3rd Lake hosts Family Fishing Day in June. Shore and small-craft fishing are both productive, and ice-fishing is allowed during the winter season. Anyone fishing in British Columbia must hold an appropriate licence. bcparks.ca/champion-lakes-park/
1st Lake Loop is a 2.5 km hike of about one hour starting from the 2nd Lake boat launch parking lot. It follows the creek between 2nd and 1st Lake, runs along the east shore of 1st Lake and returns through forest. It is the most serene of the three loops and offers spectacular fall colour when the larch turn yellow. bcparks.ca/champion-lakes-park/
The Beaver Valley Cross Country Ski Club maintains approximately 5 km of set trails within the park throughout the winter months. These connect with a further 10 km of trails outside the park. Trail fees apply, and the main campground is closed in winter. bcparks.ca/champion-lakes-park/
Interpretive panels along 3rd Champion Lake Road explain the importance of conserving the park's western painted turtle population. The panels were created through a partnership with Columbia Basin Trust, Wildsight, local contractors and Salmo Elementary School. Turtles are often seen basking on logs in the marshy shallows. bcparks.ca/champion-lakes-park/

Adam’s trailer was great. Well-equipped and clean. A great unit! We also appreciated him having it ready for us when we arrived. Much appreciated

Perfect communication with the owner! Quickly responded to all my questions! This trailer was clean and perfect for my husband and I! There were 2 bunks in the back which would have been perfect for a family with children!

This unit was a perfect home base for our 3 generation weekend camping trip. Grandma and Grandpa slept in the RV and we used the indoor and outdoor kitchens for preparing our meals. The AC was great on the warm days, and it was good to be able to eat indoors when the wasps were active during some of the meals. Lief was great in supporting us as needed.

Champion Lakes Provincial Park, BC, Canada
The park is reached via Highway 3B, about 18 km north-west of Fruitvale, with a roughly 12 km (about 20 minute) drive from the Highway 3B turn-off to the park entrance on the access road. Trail, BC is roughly a 30 minute drive and Castlegar is about 45 minutes, while Nelson sits about 1 hour 15 minutes away and Spokane, Washington is around a 3 hour drive. RVers should plan for the steep, winding grades over the Bombi Summit on Highway 3B and for narrow, forested access road conditions near the park. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is West Kootenay Regional Airport in Castlegar (YCG), with Spokane International (GEG) as the larger alternative.
