Champion Lakes Provincial Park is a scenic wilderness destination nestled in the Selkirk Mountains' Bonnington Range of the Kootenay region in British Columbia, Canada, approximately 18 km northwest of Fruitvale. Situated at 1,067 metres elevation within a lush interior cedar-hemlock forest, this 1,426-hectare park offers a peaceful retreat for campers and outdoor enthusiasts. The park features three interconnected lakes with warm swimming beaches, fishing for rainbow trout, canoeing, and kayaking. A 6.5 km network of gentle hiking trails winds through old-growth forest and marsh grasslands, including the popular 2.5 km Second Lake Loop. Wildlife viewing platforms at the second and third lakes provide excellent opportunities to spot local fauna, including Western painted turtles. In winter, the park transforms into a cross-country skiing and ice-fishing destination. Campsites are well-equipped with picnic tables, grills, firewood, and access to water hookups and a dump station, making it ideal for RV travelers. A playground is available for families. Powered boats are not permitted on the lakes, preserving the tranquil atmosphere. The Champion Lakes Golf and Country Club is a short 20-minute drive away.
