How to get to Pilot Bay Provincial Park

The park is off Highway 3A near Balfour, a 10 minute drive south of the Kootenay Bay ferry terminal, with Crawford Bay as the closest community. Nelson is roughly 34 km west of Balfour (about 40 minutes by RV), while Creston is about 80 km south via Highway 3A, and Cranbrook is roughly a 2.5 to 3 hour drive east. RV drivers should plan for the free Kootenay Lake ferry between Balfour and Kootenay Bay, narrow shoulders and winding lakeshore sections of Highway 3A, and steep grades on nearby mountain passes; vehicle length and weight dictate ferry loading order.
