Kokanee Creek Provincial Park is a premier destination in British Columbia's West Kootenays, located just 19 kilometers east of Nelson. Spanning 257 hectares, this park features over a kilometer of pristine sandy beaches, old-growth cedar and grand fir forests, and a dramatic canyon carved by Kokanee Creek. The park's four campgrounds are well-equipped with water hookups, dump stations, showers, boat launches, and family-friendly amenities including playgrounds, grills, tables, and firewood facilities.
The park offers year-round recreation for all skill levels. Summer visitors enjoy swimming and canoeing in the scenic delta, waterskiing, and windsurfing, while hikers can explore 9.5 kilometers of easy-to-moderate trails through forests and along the canyon. A unique attraction is the wildlife viewing platform overlooking Kokanee Canyon, where visitors can observe salmon spawning and native birds. Winter brings cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice skating opportunities.
The on-site nature center provides information and interpretive programs. As the number one choice for West Kootenays tourism, Kokanee Creek serves as an ideal base for exploring nearby attractions including Ainsworth Hot Springs and Kokanee Glacier Park. The park balances family-friendly recreation with natural heritage preservation, creating an inviting atmosphere for camping in British Columbia.
