Mid-July through early September is the prime window, when alpine meadows and trails are free of snow and wildflowers peak on the plateau. About half of the days in summer are sunny, with temperatures soaring to 30 degrees Celsius, while at night the thermometer will often drop below the freezing mark. Weather conditions can change suddenly, and lightning storms with hail and snow are common in summer. Shoulder months of June and late September bring fewer visitors but a real risk of snow at elevation and rough forest service road conditions.
Lussier FSR not plowed past km 25; park reached only by ski or snowshoe
Winter conditions; no vehicle access to trailhead
Deep snow at elevation; trailhead access roads closed
Forest service roads typically snowbound or muddy
Trails melting out; expect snow patches above 2,000 m
Fish Lake usually free of ice by mid-June; alpine trails still snowy
Peak hiking season; alpine free of snow by mid-July; thunderstorms common
Prime alpine conditions; wildfire smoke possible
Shoulder season; first snow at elevation possible
Fish Lake freeze-up in late October; trails may become snowbound
Access roads typically close to vehicles
Winter access by ski or snowshoe only
Fish Lake is the main destination in the park, reached by an easy, well-maintained trail from the Lussier trailhead. The trail leads to a 16 site lake-side campground at Fish Lake. The route climbs steadily through forest before opening to alpine views. bcparks.ca/top-of-the-world-park/hiking/
Sugarloaf Mountain delivers a panoramic summit view over the Top of the World Plateau. The trail has an elevation change of 300 metres, is marked near the campsite, and hikers are rewarded with a panoramic view from the summit. bcparks.ca/top-of-the-world-park/hiking/
The Lakeshore Trail is a gentle loop that circles Fish Lake with constantly changing views. Length is 2 km, suggested hiking time is 30 minutes to one hour, and this is a pleasant stroll around Fish Lake offering many different views of the lake and the surrounding peaks. bcparks.ca/top-of-the-world-park/hiking/
Summer Pass is a rewarding alpine extension above Fish Lake. The trail is 4 km long with a suggested hiking time of 2 to 4 hours, has 430 metres of elevation change, and begins at the north end of Fish Lake via the Lakeshore Trail, continuing through alpine meadows to Summer Pass. bcparks.ca/top-of-the-world-park/hiking/
Coyote Creek Trail leads to a quieter backcountry campsite beyond Fish Lake. Length is 7 km, suggested hiking time is 1.5 to 3 hours, elevation change is 368 metres, the hike is fairly strenuous, and it starts approximately 100 metres north of Fish Lake and is clearly signed. bcparks.ca/top-of-the-world-park/hiking/
Fish Lake is the park's signature angling destination. Most people angle for the cutthroat and Dolly Varden trout that thrive in Fish Lake, with cutthroat averaging 20 cm and Dolly Varden coming in at 30 cm. A bait ban is in effect, and angling with flies and lures is permitted. bcparks.ca/top-of-the-world-park/
Ram Creek hot springs is a rustic roadside soak along the White-Ram Forest Service Road corridor. It makes a popular rest stop for travellers heading toward the Top of the World area. Facilities are primitive with no services.
In winter the park becomes a quiet destination for self-sufficient skiers. Depending on road accessibility to the trailhead, Top of the World provides excellent cross-country skiing and snowshoeing opportunities from the trailhead to Fish Lake and surrounding area. bcparks.ca/top-of-the-world-park/

Top of the World Provincial Park, BC, Canada
The park is located about 48 km northeast of Kimberley and roughly 90 km from Cranbrook, British Columbia, about a 2 hour drive to the Lussier River trailhead on gravel forest service roads. Access is via Highway 93/95 (turn east 4.5 km south of Canal Flats), then the White Swan and Lussier Forest Service Roads to the trailhead at km 52. Large motorhomes and trailers are not recommended on the final forest service road sections due to loose gravel, potholes, and active logging traffic, so many RVers stage at Whiteswan Lake or Wasa Lake Provincial Parks and transfer to a smaller vehicle. Loaded logging trucks and other industrial traffic may be encountered; drive with extreme caution and yield to industrial traffic. Canadian Rockies International Airport in Cranbrook is the closest option for fly-and-rent travellers.
