Spring, from March through May, is widely considered the best time to visit, with mild temperatures, wildflowers along the trails, and strong flow at Gorman Falls. Fall, from October through early December, also offers comfortable hiking weather and lower humidity. Summer brings intense heat that can exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit, so paddling and swimming are the main draws. Winter weekends are quiet and good for RV travel, though nights can drop near freezing.

Colorado Bend State Park, TX, United States
The park is accessed via County Road 442 and County Road 441 from the town of Bend, Texas, roughly a 2 to 2.5 hour drive west of Austin and about 4 hours southwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The final approach includes several miles of gravel county road, which can be rough and dusty, so RVers should reduce speed and watch for washboard sections after rain. There are no tunnels or major mountain grades, but low-water crossings in the area can flood after storms, so check conditions before arrival. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers, about 110 miles southeast.
