The best time to visit Curry Hammock State Park is from December through April, when the Florida Keys enjoy warm, dry weather, low humidity, and mild breezes that keep mosquitoes down. This peak season books up far in advance, so reservations for the campground should be made as soon as the booking window opens. Shoulder months like November and May offer warm water and thinner crowds, while June through October brings heat, afternoon thunderstorms, stronger mosquitoes, and Atlantic hurricane season risk, which RVers should monitor closely.

The park's sandy beach faces the Atlantic and offers calm, shallow, turquoise water that is good for families. Swimmers share the area with patches of seagrass, so water shoes are helpful.
Paddlers can launch from the park and explore protected flats, mangrove channels, and nearby uninhabited islands. Rentals are typically available from on-site concessionaires.
Curry Hammock is a regional favorite for windsurfing and kiteboarding thanks to consistent trade winds and shallow launch conditions. The bayside launch is especially popular on breezy days.
A short nature trail loops through tropical hardwood hammock and mangrove habitat near the day-use area. Expect flat, shaded walking with interpretive signs about native plants and wildlife.
Each fall, the park hosts the Florida Keys Hawkwatch, a volunteer raptor migration count that documents tens of thousands of hawks, falcons, and other birds moving through the Keys. Visitors are welcome to observe the platform during the count season.
Anglers can fish from shore or small craft for snapper, jack, barracuda, and other Keys species. A valid Florida saltwater fishing license is required for those not exempt.
The park's mix of hammock, mangrove, and shoreline habitats supports herons, egrets, ospreys, shorebirds, and occasional sightings of the rare Keys cotton mouse. Early morning and late afternoon are best for wildlife viewing.
Shaded picnic pavilions with grills sit along the shoreline and make an easy lunch stop on a Keys road trip. Restrooms and parking that fits most rigs are close by.

Curry Hammock State Park, FL, United States
The park sits on Little Crawl Key just off the Overseas Highway (US-1) at approximately mile marker 56, about 10 miles east of Marathon and roughly 20 miles west of Islamorada. From Miami it is about a 2.5 to 3 hour drive south (around 130 miles) via US-1, a scenic two-lane route with many low bridges, including the Seven Mile Bridge, and narrow shoulders, so RVers should plan for slow traffic and limited passing. There are no mountain passes or tunnels, but high winds on the bridges can affect tall rigs, and fuel stops are spaced out so top off before leaving Homestead. The nearest airports for fly-and-rent trips are Florida Keys Marathon International Airport (MTH, about 15 minutes away) and Miami International Airport (MIA) for larger RV rental inventory.
