Late June through early September offers the warmest, driest weather and the best conditions for beach days, with average highs in the 70s Fahrenheit and long daylight hours. July and August are the busiest months, so reservations fill far in advance for weekends and holidays. Shoulder seasons in May, early June, and September bring cooler temperatures, lighter crowds, and easier campsite availability, though rain becomes more likely. Winter visits are possible for day use and off-season camping, but expect frequent rain, short days, and muddy trails.

Dash Point Beach is a wide, sandy tidal beach on Puget Sound that is the centerpiece of the park. At low tide the sandbars extend hundreds of feet out, making it ideal for wading, beachcombing, and watching for shorebirds. A paved day-use parking area sits a short walk from the water.
The park contains several miles of forested hiking trails that loop through ravines and second-growth forest between the campground and the beach. Routes range from short connectors to longer loops suitable for a half-day outing. Trailheads are accessible from the main day-use and campground areas.
Dash Point offers a dedicated mountain-bike trail system through the park's interior forest. The singletrack is popular with local riders and includes rolling terrain suitable for intermediate cyclists. Riders can park at the main lot and access the trail network directly.
The day-use area includes picnic tables, shelters, and a playground set above the beach. It is a popular spot for family gatherings and has restrooms and drinking water nearby. Several shelters can be reserved in advance.
The long tidal flats at Dash Point are excellent for beachcombing during minus tides. Visitors can look for crabs, clams, sand dollars, and seabirds along the exposed shoreline. Check a Puget Sound tide chart before visiting to time low tide.
The combination of saltwater shoreline, mixed conifer forest, and freshwater creeks makes Dash Point a productive spot for birdwatching. Common sightings include bald eagles, great blue herons, kingfishers, and a variety of shorebirds and songbirds. Bring binoculars and walk the beach or forest trails at dawn for best results.
We had such a great weekend camping in the Memory Maker! Danielle has thought of everything when it comes to making life easy while you are “roughing it”. We felt cozy and comfortable sleeping as a family of 5. It was easy to pull behind our Tahoe as well. Great experience all around, we already have our next trip booked!

Dash Point State Park, WA, United States
Dash Point State Park sits in the northeast corner of Federal Way, Washington, roughly 25 miles south of downtown Seattle and about 10 miles north of Tacoma, each around a 30-minute drive in light traffic. From Interstate 5, RV drivers typically exit at 320th Street in Federal Way and follow signs west to 47th Avenue SW and Dash Point Road (SR 509). The final approach along SR 509 includes some tight curves and a steady downhill grade into the park, so drivers of longer rigs should take it slow and watch overhead tree limbs near the campground loops. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, about 15 miles north of the park.
