Spring (April and May) and fall (late September through October) offer the most comfortable temperatures for RV travel, with daytime highs generally in the 60s and 70s Fahrenheit and cool nights ideal for stargazing. Summer brings intense heat, strong sun exposure, and afternoon monsoon thunderstorms, so early-morning hiking is strongly recommended. Winter is quieter with occasional snow and icy overlook trails, but the paved mesa road stays open and shoulder-season RVers often find easier campground reservations. Holiday weekends and spring break fill both park campgrounds quickly.
Cold, occasional snow on rim trails; campgrounds open but water systems may be winterized
Cool and dry; water at campgrounds may remain off
Mild days, cold nights; water typically reactivated late in the month
Peak spring; book campsites well in advance
Warm and busy; carry extra water
Hot; hike early, minimal shade on mesa
Monsoon season; watch for afternoon thunderstorms and flash flooding in surrounding canyons
Monsoon thunderstorms continue; lightning risk at overlooks
Excellent RV weather; crowds ease after Labor Day
Ideal shoulder season
Cool, quiet; check for early freeze
Cold with possible snow; campground water likely winterized, vault toilets in use
Dead Horse Point Overlook is the park's signature viewpoint, perched 2,000 feet above a gooseneck of the Colorado River. A short paved path from the large visitor center parking lot leads to railed viewing platforms suitable for all ability levels. RV and trailer parking is available at the overlook lot.
The Rim Trail is a roughly 5-mile loop that follows both the east and west edges of the mesa with continuous canyon views. Hikers can start at the visitor center, Kayenta Campground, or the main overlook and tailor the distance. The trail is mostly flat with slickrock sections and little shade.
The Intrepid Trail System offers about 17 miles of singletrack designed for mountain biking, with loops rated easy to intermediate. The trailhead is at the visitor center and includes a large lot that accommodates RVs and bike trailers. Routes wind through pinyon-juniper with periodic canyon overlooks.
Basin Overlook is a quieter viewpoint on the Rim Trail looking northwest toward Canyonlands and the potash evaporation ponds below. It can be reached on foot from Kayenta Campground via a short spur. The viewpoint is a popular sunset stop.
Dead Horse Point is certified as an International Dark Sky Park, offering some of the clearest night skies in the Southwest. Ranger-led astronomy programs are held seasonally at the visitor center amphitheater. Campground loops double as convenient stargazing bases for RVers.
Meander Overlook sits along the West Rim Trail and offers expansive views of the Colorado River's tight bends and the Shafer Trail switchbacks below. A short walk from the main park road or a longer hike along the rim leads to the viewpoint. Sunrise light on the canyon walls is especially dramatic from here.
The park visitor center features exhibits on local geology, desert ecology, and the legend behind the park's name. It also serves as the central trailhead, bookstore, and information hub for RV travelers. Restrooms and the main RV parking area are located here.
What a wonderful experience our camping trip was! The owners were always available when we had questions and the camper was clean and ready to go when we showed up. Super nice people to rent from. I would highly recommend this camper if you're looking for a nice clean camper to rent in Moab.

Absolutely loved our weekend getaway with the little clipper trailer though RV Moab. They were accommodating, communicative, and provided everything we could have needed (without cluttering the little space) for an enjoyable weekend in Utah.

Dead Horse Point State Park, UT, United States
From Moab, drive north on US-191 for about 9 miles, then turn west on UT-313 and climb roughly 23 miles to the park entrance, a drive of about 45 minutes. Salt Lake City is approximately 240 miles (4 to 4.5 hours) to the northwest, and Grand Junction, Colorado is about 115 miles (2 hours) to the east. UT-313 is a paved, two-lane road with several steep grades and sweeping curves as it climbs onto the mesa, so RVers should descend in low gear and watch for strong crosswinds along the exposed plateau. The nearest commercial airports for fly-and-rent trips are Canyonlands Regional Airport (CNY) near Moab and Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT).
