Late June through August is the prime window, when Lake Diefenbaker is warm enough for swimming and all campground services are running. July and August bring the busiest weekends, so reservations fill quickly. Early June and September are quieter shoulder-season options with cooler nights but fewer crowds and easier site selection for larger RVs. Winter access is limited and most services close after the fall long weekend.

The Elbow Sand Hills are the park's signature feature, a landscape of active and partially stabilized dunes along Lake Diefenbaker. Trails lead from the day-use area out across open sand and mixed grass prairie with wide lake views.
A long sandy beach on Lake Diefenbaker fronts the day-use area and is the park's main swimming spot. The gradual sandy bottom and warm summer water make it popular with families travelling by RV.
Lake Diefenbaker is one of Saskatchewan's largest reservoirs and supports powerboating, sailing, paddling, and water skiing. The park has a boat launch with trailer parking suited to RV tow rigs.
Lake Diefenbaker is known for trophy walleye, northern pike, and rainbow trout fishing. Anglers can fish from shore, the boat launch area, or by boat, with a provincial licence required.
A self-guiding interpretive trail highlights the park's dune ecosystem, aspen bluffs, and native plant communities. It is a good short walk from the campground for families with children.
The mix of prairie, sand dunes, aspen groves, and lake shoreline attracts a wide range of songbirds, waterfowl, and raptors. Early morning from the day-use area and campground loops is the most productive time.
The nearby resort village of Elbow offers a marina, harbour, golf course, and local dining a short drive from the park. It is an easy outing for RV travellers looking for supplies or a change of scenery.

Douglas Provincial Park, SK, Canada
The park is reached from Saskatoon in roughly 1.5 to 2 hours by driving south on Highway 11 and west on Highway 19 past the village of Elbow, a distance of about 130 km. From Regina, plan on about 2 to 2.5 hours north and west via Highways 11 and 19, roughly 175 km. Highways are paved, prairie-flat, and friendly for large RVs, with no tunnels or major mountain grades, though cross winds across Lake Diefenbaker and open farmland can push high-profile rigs. Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travellers.
