Late May through September is the most comfortable window, when daytime temperatures support swimming, picnicking, and trail use. July and August bring the warmest weather and the busiest weekends, so weekday visits are quieter for RV travelers. Spring and early fall offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and excellent birding along the river. Winter visits are possible for day use, but expect cold temperatures, snow, and limited services.

The park's roughly 2.8-mile paved walking and biking path is a flat, accessible loop through cottonwood groves and along the North Platte. It is suitable for strollers, wheelchairs, and casual cyclists, and it connects to picnic areas and river overlooks.
Anglers fish the North Platte River frontage for trout, walleye, catfish, and panfish from grassy banks within the park. Several pull-offs and shoreline access points sit close to RV-friendly parking lots.
A designated sand swimming beach and adjacent open lawn provide a family-friendly riverside spot during summer. Picnic tables and shelters are nearby, with no lifeguard on duty.
Shaded picnic shelters, tables, and grills are spread across the park, with some shelters reservable for groups. Large gravel and paved parking pads accommodate motorhomes and trailers.
The riparian corridor draws waterfowl, raptors, deer, and songbirds, making the park a popular birding spot near Casper. Quiet morning walks along the paved path and river overlooks offer the best viewing.
The park provides volleyball courts and horseshoe pits near the picnic areas for casual recreation. These facilities are open on a first-come basis and are an easy stop for RV travelers visiting for the day.
The park works as a base for exploring nearby Casper attractions, including Fort Caspar Museum and the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center. Both sites offer interpretive exhibits on the Oregon, California, Mormon Pioneer, and Pony Express trails.
The Cushman's were wonderful. I was nervous about the trip and they graciously let me see the motor home beforehand. The motor home was great and served us very well. Highly recommend. Give them 6 stars for communication!

The Cushman's were a pleasure to rent from. They were both accommodating and easy to talk to. The RV was clean, well-kept and well maintained. We had the minimum of problems and maximum fun because of the worry-free experience. We drove from Douglas, WY past Devils Tower and camped near Deadwood, SD then back again. Thank you!
