Late June through August offers the warmest weather, swimmable lake temperatures, and full campground services, making it the prime RV window. September into early October brings cool nights, lighter crowds, and the Green Mountains' famous fall foliage, which is a strong shoulder-season choice for RV travelers. The park typically operates from mid-May through Columbus Day weekend, after which campground services close for the season. Black flies and mosquitoes can be heavy in late spring, so early summer trips should plan for insect repellent.

The small sandy beach on Emerald Lake is the park's main day-use attraction. The lake is quiet and protected, which keeps swimming areas calm, and the beach has changing facilities and picnic tables nearby.
Emerald Lake is a quiet lake (no gas motors) well suited to canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. A seasonal boat rental concession operates near the beach, and shoreline views take in Dorset Mountain and surrounding ridges.
Anglers can fish Emerald Lake from shore or by paddle craft. The lake holds bass and panfish, and a current Vermont fishing license is required.
The Vista Trail is the park's main hiking loop, climbing from the campground area through northern hardwood forest to viewpoints overlooking the lake and valley. Expect rocky footing and moderate elevation gain.
The park's day-use area has shaded picnic tables, grills, and easy lake access. It is a convenient stop for RV travelers passing through on Route 7.
The historic villages of Manchester and Dorset are a short drive south on Route 7. Visitors find shops, restaurants, and trailheads into the Green Mountain National Forest.
The Manchester Ranger District of the Green Mountain National Forest borders the area and offers extensive hiking, including sections of the Long Trail and Appalachian Trail. RV parking is available at several major trailheads off Route 7.
I recently had the pleasure of staying in Lien's camper van for a music festival in Vermont, and I can't emphasize enough how perfectly it met my needs. My four essential requirements for the stay— a clean environment, a comfortable bed, a bathroom, and quality coffee—were not only satisfied but exceeded in every aspect, transforming my experience into one of sheer comfort and enjoyment. In fact, I enjoyed my stay so much that I’ve already booked for next year's festivities! Lien proved to be an exceptional host, embodying warmth and hospitality throughout my stay. She communicated effectively and was always available to address any questions I had, ensuring I felt welcome and well-informed. Her clear instructions prior to my arrival made the check-in process seamless, and she generously took the time to provide a thorough tutorial on the van's systems, which truly enhanced my experience. Furthermore, Lien went above and beyond by supplying plenty of pillows, blankets, and fresh spring water, which added thoughtful touches to my stay. Her attention to detail made all the difference, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the festival atmosphere without any worries. I wholeheartedly recommend her camper van as the perfect 'home away from home' for solo travelers or couples alike. If you're looking for a convenient, comfortable, and fun place to stay, look no further! You won't be disappointed!

Emerald Lake State Park, VT, United States
The park is on U.S. Route 7 in East Dorset, about 8 miles north of Manchester, Vermont, and roughly 3 to 3.5 hours from Boston, Massachusetts, or 4 hours from New York City. Albany International Airport in New York is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers, about 1.5 hours west. RV drivers should note that Route 7 is the main approach and is suitable for larger rigs, but secondary Vermont roads in the area can be narrow, winding, and steep, with seasonal frost-heave damage in spring. Avoid using GPS shortcuts onto unpaved Class 4 town roads, which are not maintained for RV travel.
