Best time to visit Fairy Stone State Park

Late spring through early fall offers the most comfortable conditions, with May, June, September, and October combining warm days, cool nights, and lower humidity. July and August are the busiest months thanks to the swim beach and lake activities, so reservations fill quickly on weekends. Shoulder seasons bring fall color on the surrounding ridges and uncrowded trails, though overnight temperatures can drop sharply. Winter is quiet and some facilities operate on reduced schedules, but the campground generally remains accessible for self-contained RVs.

The Rv was exactly what we needed and the owner (Jonathan) was an incredible help. Jonathan takes great care of this RV and anyone who rents it will be pleased. But please treat the RV well, because I plan on renting again in the future!!

How to get to Fairy Stone State Park

The park sits off Virginia Route 57 in Patrick County, about 20 miles northwest of Martinsville and roughly 50 miles south of Roanoke, a drive of about an hour from Roanoke and under three hours from Greensboro, North Carolina. Access roads wind through the Blue Ridge foothills with rolling grades and a few tight curves, so larger rigs should plan a daylight arrival and avoid shortcuts on unpaved county roads. There are no major tunnels or weight-restricted routes on the main approach via US 220 and Route 57, but mountain weather can bring fog and icy patches in winter. The closest commercial airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport (ROA), with Piedmont Triad International (GSO) in Greensboro as a larger alternative.
