Best time to visit Flaming Geyser State Park

Late spring through early fall, roughly May to September, offers the warmest and driest weather for riverside picnicking, hiking, and paddling. July and August bring peak visitation on weekends, so midweek arrivals are calmer for finding day-use parking with an RV. Shoulder months like April and October are pleasantly cool and quieter, though rain is more likely. Winter visits are possible since the park stays open, but trails can be muddy and river flows run high.

The Green River is a popular destination for bank anglers pursuing seasonal salmon and steelhead runs. Multiple river access points are spread along the park's day-use road. A Washington State fishing license and current regulations apply.

  • Whitewater Kayaking and Rafting Moderate
    RV parking available

Flaming Geyser serves as a take-out and put-in for sections of the Green River Gorge run upstream. Flows are best in spring and early summer. Paved parking near the river makes gear shuttling easier.

  • Disc Golf Course Easy
    RV parking available

A full-length disc golf course winds through the park's open meadows and tree lines. The course is free to play with a Discover Pass for parking. RV-friendly lots are a short walk from the first tee.

  • Model Airplane Field

A designated grass strip in the park's open field is used by local radio-control model aircraft clubs. Visitors can watch flying activity on weekends. Day-use parking is nearby with room for larger vehicles.

  • Picnicking and Riverside Meadows Easy
    RV parking available

Large open lawns, picnic tables, and reservable shelters line the Green River throughout the park. The flat terrain is stroller and wheelchair friendly. Multiple pull-through style lots make it easy to park an RV for the day.

  • The Flaming Geyser Feature Easy
    RV parking available

A short walk from the main road leads to the park's namesake gas seep, a small methane vent once lit as a flame. The seep is interpretive and historical rather than spectacular today. The trail is short and suitable for most visitors.

We had such a great weekend camping in the Memory Maker! Danielle has thought of everything when it comes to making life easy while you are “roughing it”. We felt cozy and comfortable sleeping as a family of 5. It was easy to pull behind our Tahoe as well. Great experience all around, we already have our next trip booked!
