Late fall through early spring, roughly November through April, is the most comfortable window for RV travel, with mild temperatures, lower humidity, and fewer mosquitoes. Spring shoulder months bring wildflowers and active wildlife without the peak summer heat. Summer is warm, humid, and busy with beachgoers, and it overlaps with Atlantic hurricane season, so travelers should monitor forecasts. Winter stays mild by northern standards but campsites book quickly with snowbird demand, so reservations well in advance are recommended.

Fort Clinch is a preserved 19th-century brick fortification with self-guided tours through barracks, kitchens, and gun galleries. Costumed living history interpreters recreate Civil War-era garrison life on select weekends. The fort sits a short drive from both campgrounds with designated visitor parking.
The park's Atlantic-facing beach offers swimming, sunbathing, surf fishing, and some of the best shelling on Florida's east coast. Access is via boardwalks from the main park road with day-use parking nearby. Rip currents and summer jellyfish are possible, so check conditions.
Willow Pond Nature Trail is a shaded loop through maritime hammock and around freshwater ponds frequented by alligators, wading birds, and turtles. The trail is relatively flat and family friendly. The trailhead has a gravel lot suitable for smaller rigs and tow vehicles.
The half-mile fishing pier extends into Cumberland Sound, offering anglers access to redfish, flounder, sheepshead, and other saltwater species. A Florida saltwater fishing license is required for most anglers. Parking for the pier is near the park entrance.
A paved multi-use road and an unpaved off-road bike trail wind through the park's maritime forest between the fort and the park entrance. The route is mostly shaded and popular with cyclists and joggers. Bikes can be rented locally in Fernandina Beach.
Kayakers can launch from nearby access points to explore tidal creeks, salt marshes, and the sound with views of Cumberland Island across the water. Wildlife sightings include dolphins, manatees, and numerous shorebirds. Tides are strong, so experienced paddling or a guided tour is recommended.
Historic downtown Fernandina Beach is a short drive south of the park and features a 50-block historic district with Victorian architecture, shops, and seafood restaurants. Centre Street offers public parking suitable for tow vehicles. It pairs well with a rest day from the campground.
Our first time renting an RV and we didn’t know what to expect. Delivery of the RV was prompt and Big Jeff set everything up for us. Many of the items we brought were already there for use which was really great. I’m particular about our pillows and towels so we brought those along with our toiletries but everything else was there! Fantastic experience and great service with the delivery, setup and tear down. Would highly recommend.

Host was exceptionally communicative at all times. Answered question within minutes of sending. Comfortable, clean, and exactly as described. Drop-off and pick-up went off without a hitch. Will be using their service next time we are in need of a glamping setup.

Fort Clinch State Park, FL, United States
The park sits at the north end of Amelia Island, about 35 miles northeast of downtown Jacksonville, roughly a 45 minute drive via I-95 and State Road A1A. Savannah, Georgia is about 140 miles north, a drive of two and a half to three hours. Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent trips, about 30 miles away. RV drivers should note that A1A through Fernandina Beach has some tight turns and low-hanging live oak canopy on park roads, so tall rigs should proceed slowly; there are no mountain grades or tunnels on the approach.
