Spring (March to May) and fall (October to November) are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel, with daytime highs in the 70s Fahrenheit and wildflowers along the Navasota River corridor. Summer brings hot, humid days and busy weekends for swimming and paddling on Fort Parker Lake, so reservations are recommended well in advance. Winter is quiet and mild with occasional cold fronts, making it a good shoulder season for full hookups without crowds. Heavy spring rains can raise lake levels, so check conditions before arriving with a larger rig.

Fort Parker Lake is a roughly 750-acre reservoir on the Navasota River stocked with largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, and sunfish. Anglers can fish from the bank, the lighted pier, or from small boats launched at the park ramp. No state fishing license is required when fishing from the bank within the park.
The calm lake is well suited to canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. The park rents kayaks seasonally, and a no-wake rule keeps the water friendly for beginners. Paddlers often explore the quieter upper reaches of the Navasota arm for birdwatching.
A designated swim beach on Fort Parker Lake is open seasonally during the warmer months. The gently sloping shoreline is popular with families staying at the campground. No lifeguard is on duty, so swimmers should use caution.
This easy loop near the historic townsite of Springfield winds through hardwood bottomlands and open meadows. It is a short, mostly flat walk suitable for most visitors, with interpretive signs about early settlement of Limestone County. Trailhead parking can accommodate tow vehicles.
The Post Oak Savannah habitat supports white-tailed deer, armadillos, wild turkeys, and a wide variety of songbirds and waterfowl. The lake and its wooded shoreline are a stopover for migrating birds in spring and fall. Early morning and late afternoon offer the best viewing.
Old Fort Parker is a reconstructed 1830s frontier stockade located just a few miles from the state park. The site interprets the story of the Parker family and the 1836 raid in which Cynthia Ann Parker was taken captive. RV parking is available at the historic site lot.
The park preserves stone pavilions, a bathhouse, and picnic shelters built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Shaded picnic sites near the lake are a popular midday break for RV travelers. Several structures are listed for their historic and architectural value.
