Late spring through early fall is the prime window, with May, June, and September offering warm days, cooler nights, and lighter crowds than midsummer weekends. July and August bring peak heat, humidity, and the busiest campground weekends, so midweek arrivals are easier for larger RVs. Fall color in the oak-hickory woodland typically peaks in mid to late October. Winters are cold with possible snow and ice, and many park amenities scale back, though some camping loops can remain open on a limited basis.

Lake Geode is the centerpiece of the park and a popular fishing spot for bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish. A boat ramp provides access for small craft, and shoreline fishing spots are reachable from parking areas near the dam and beach.
The park maintains a sand swimming beach on Lake Geode with a designated swim area and picnic amenities nearby. It is a straightforward day-use stop with paved parking that works for tow vehicles and smaller RVs.
Several miles of trails loop through the park's oak-hickory woodland and along sections of the lakeshore. Trails are used for hiking, trail running, and, in places, mountain biking, with trailheads reachable from campground and day-use parking areas.
Lake Geode is a no-wake lake well suited to kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards. Paddlers launch from the boat ramp and explore quiet coves along the wooded shoreline.
The park includes open picnic grounds, reservable shelters, and playground areas suitable for family gatherings. Day-use parking lots have room for trucks and travel trailers parked together.
The Geode State Park Civilian Conservation Corps Area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, featuring 1930s-era stonework and structures built by the CCC. Self-guided exploration is possible from day-use parking near the core of the park. npgallery.nps.gov/AssetDetail/NRIS/90001673
The park is named for the geode, Iowa's state rock, which is associated with the surrounding southeast Iowa region. Collecting is not permitted within the state park itself, but visitors often pair a stay here with rockhounding on nearby private or designated sites.
The park's mix of woodland, lake, and edge habitat supports deer, wild turkey, songbirds, and waterfowl. Early mornings around the lakeshore and along quiet trail sections are productive for wildlife viewing and photography.

Geode State Park, IA, United States
The park sits off County Road J20 between Danville and Lowell in Henry County, about 15 miles west of Burlington and roughly 25 miles east of Mount Pleasant. From Burlington, drivers typically follow US-34 west and then county roads south to the park, a drive of about 25 to 30 minutes. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Quad City International Airport (MLI) in Moline, Illinois, about 90 miles north, with Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) in Cedar Rapids another option farther north. Roads into the park are paved but include rural two-lane sections with curves and hills, so RV drivers should take interior park roads slowly and watch for tight turns near the campground and beach.
