Mid-July through early September is the prime window for RV travel, when alpine trails are snow-free, front-country campgrounds (Illecillewaet and Loop Brook) are open, and the Trans-Canada Highway is typically clear of winter hazards. June and late September offer quieter roads and fewer crowds, but higher trails can still hold snow and weather changes quickly at elevation. Winter brings heavy snowfall and avalanche-control closures on Rogers Pass, so most visitor services shut down and only experienced, equipped travellers should plan a cold-season trip.

The Rogers Pass Discovery Centre is the park's main visitor hub, located directly off the Trans-Canada Highway at the summit of the pass. Exhibits cover railway history, avalanche science, and the park's glaciers, with ample parking for RVs and a short interpretive walk outside. parks.canada.ca/pn-np/bc/glacier
Illecillewaet is the park's main front-country base, offering access to a cluster of historic trails that climb toward the Illecillewaet Névé and Asulkan Valley. Today's hikers follow paths laid down by Swiss guides more than a century ago. parks.canada.ca/pn-np/bc/glacier
Hemlock Grove is a short, flat boardwalk loop through old-growth western hemlock in the park's inland rainforest. The 400 m loop is an easy leg-stretch for RV travellers on the Trans-Canada Highway. parks.canada.ca/pn-np/bc/glacier
Loop Brook Trail is a gentle interpretive loop near the Loop Brook Campground that passes the stone pillars of an abandoned Canadian Pacific Railway trestle. It's a good leg-stretch for RV travellers making the drive over Rogers Pass. parks.canada.ca/pn-np/bc/glacier
Abbott Ridge is a strenuous day hike from the Illecillewaet area that climbs steeply to a panoramic alpine ridge with views of the Illecillewaet Icefield. The trail gains roughly 1,000 m and is typically snow-free only from late July through September. parks.canada.ca/pn-np/bc/glacier
The Great Glacier Trail follows an historic route from the Illecillewaet trailhead toward the toe of the Illecillewaet Glacier, once known as the Great Glacier. It offers a close look at one of the park's most studied glaciers and classic Selkirk Mountain scenery. parks.canada.ca/pn-np/bc/glacier
Meeting of the Waters is a short, family-friendly walk from the Illecillewaet trailhead to the confluence of the Illecillewaet and Asulkan brooks. The flat path is well-suited for travellers looking for a quick stop between longer drives. parks.canada.ca/pn-np/bc/glacier
This was our family's first RV experience and Richard made it easy for us. The camper was waiting for us at our site, and he was available and responsive when we had a problem. Everything was just as described and the beds were very comfortable.

Glacier National Park, BC, Canada
The park straddles the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) at Rogers Pass, roughly 80 km east of Revelstoke and about 80 km west of Golden, placing it around a 3 hour drive from Kamloops and roughly 4.5 hours from Calgary. RV drivers should prepare for the long sustained climb and descent over Rogers Pass, which crests at about 1,330 m and passes through multiple snowsheds with height and lane restrictions, plus winter avalanche-control closures that can stop traffic for hours. There are no tunnels that prohibit propane, but winter tires or chains are mandatory on Hwy 1 through the park from October 1 to April 30. The nearest commercial airports for fly-and-rent trips are Kelowna (YLW) and Calgary (YYC), each several hours away by road.
