Late June through early September offers the warmest weather, full campground operation, and the best conditions for swimming and boating on Lake Ontario. July and August are peak season, so reservations are strongly recommended for RV sites. Shoulder months of May, early June, and September bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and strong fishing, though some facilities run on reduced hours. Winter visits are limited to day use, with the campground closed and lake-effect snow common.

Golden Hill State Park, NY, United States
Golden Hill State Park sits on Lower Lake Road in Barker, about 45 minutes (35 miles) northeast of Niagara Falls and roughly an hour west of Rochester via Lake Ontario State Parkway and NY Route 18. RV travelers from the south typically use I-90 (New York State Thruway) to Route 78 or Route 63, then work north on secondary roads; watch for low clearances on rural underpasses and posted weight limits on some county bridges. Buffalo Niagara International Airport is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent trips, about 50 miles to the southwest. The final approach roads are flat with no mountain passes, making access straightforward for larger rigs.
