Late April through June and September through October are the best months for RV travel to Graham Cave State Park. Spring brings wildflowers, green woodlands, and moderate temperatures ideal for hiking, while fall delivers crisp weather and colorful foliage in the oak-hickory forest. Summer is open and fully operational but can be hot, humid, and buggy, and thunderstorms are common. Winter stays mostly accessible for day use, though cold snaps, ice, and reduced campground services make shoulder seasons more comfortable for RVers.

The Graham Cave viewing area lets visitors see the sandstone shelter that made the park a National Historic Landmark. Interpretive signs explain the Dalton culture evidence uncovered during excavations and the cave's place in North American archaeology. A short, mostly level path from the parking area keeps the site accessible to most visitors.
Graham Cave Glades Trail is a short loop hike through oak-hickory forest and sandstone glades above the cave. Hikers pass rocky outcrops and seasonal wildflowers with views of the surrounding woodland. The trail is family-friendly and suitable for a quick leg-stretch from the campground.
The Loutre River Trail follows the wooded corridor along the Loutre River at the edge of the park. Expect shaded walking, birdwatching, and occasional river views through the bottomland forest. It's a good choice for a cooler hike on hot summer days.
Anglers can fish the Loutre River inside the park for catfish, bass, and sunfish. A boat ramp provides access for canoes, kayaks, and small johnboats. A Missouri fishing license is required for anyone aged 16 or older.
Graham Cave State Park offers picnic areas with tables and shelters shaded by mature hardwoods. Several shelters can be reserved in advance while others are first-come, first-served. Shaded parking pullouts make it easy for RVers to stop for a midday break off I-70.
The park campground offers basic and electric sites suitable for tents, trailers, and smaller motorhomes. Amenities typically include restrooms, showers, a dump station, and a camp store during peak season. It makes a quiet, convenient overnight for I-70 RV travelers between St. Louis and Columbia.
The park's mix of forest, glade, and riverine habitat supports white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and a wide range of songbirds and woodpeckers. Early morning walks along the trails are best for spotting wildlife. Binoculars and a field guide add a lot to a quiet shoulder-season visit.
Rick's RV was perfect for me and the family! It's amazing and plenty of space. Rick was also super helpful with any questions and followed up right away.
