Best time to visit Grand Teton National Park

Mid-June through mid-September is the prime window for RV travel, when all park roads and campgrounds are typically open and daytime highs are comfortable for hiking and boating. July and August bring the warmest weather and peak crowds, so arriving early in the day at trailheads and reserving campsites well in advance is important. Late May and September are strong shoulder seasons with fewer visitors, cooler nights, and good wildlife viewing, though some facilities operate on reduced schedules. Winter access is limited: most interior roads, including Teton Park Road, close to vehicles from early November through late April.

How to get to Grand Teton National Park

The park's south entrance at Moose is about 15 minutes north of Jackson, Wyoming, and roughly 5 hours (275 miles) from Salt Lake City, Utah via US-89. From Yellowstone's South Entrance it is a short, scenic drive on the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Parkway. RV drivers should avoid Teton Pass (WY-22), which has sustained 10 percent grades and a 60,000 lb weight limit and is not recommended for large RVs or trailers; use US-26/287 over Togwotee Pass (9,658 ft) as the preferred RV route from the east. Jackson Hole Airport (JAC), located inside the park boundary, is the closest option for fly-and-rent travelers.
