Moore's Knob Trail is a 4.3-mile loop to the highest point in the Sauratown Mountains, topped by a stone lookout tower. The hike passes the campground and climbs through hardwood forest to 360-degree summit views. Trailhead access is from the campground and lake parking areas.
Upper Cascades is a short, family-friendly walk to a scenic cascade tumbling over layered rock. The paved and stepped path is under half a mile round trip from a dedicated parking area. It is one of the most accessible waterfalls in the park.
This 1.4-mile round-trip hike visits two waterfalls along Indian Creek, including a natural rock window above the lower falls. The trail descends rocky steps and can be slippery when wet. It starts from the Visitor Center parking area.
The park's 12-acre lake offers a sandy swim beach with bathhouse and seasonal boat rentals for canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats. Swimming is permitted only when lifeguards are on duty during summer. Parking near the lake accommodates vehicles with trailers.
Hanging Rock is one of the premier rock climbing destinations in central North Carolina, with traditional routes on quartzite faces at Moore's Wall and Cook's Wall. Climbers must register with the park office before heading out. Approach trails start from the main park road and campground area.
The Dan River flows through the northern portion of the park and offers flatwater to mild whitewater paddling on designated sections. Access points are located near Hanging Rock State Park's river unit. Local outfitters in Danbury provide shuttle and rental services for RV travelers.

This was my first experience personally using an RV rental service and it could not have gone better. Zack was very helpful and accommodating with all the questions and concerns I had and I would not hesitate to rent from him again. Pick up and drop off was very flexible. The unit was very clean. Everything worked as it should.

Hanging Rock State Park, NC, United States
The park sits off NC Highway 89 near Danbury, roughly 30 miles north of Winston-Salem and about 45 miles northwest of Greensboro, each around a 45 to 60 minute drive. Raleigh is about 2.5 hours east and Charlotte about 2 hours southwest via I-40 and US 52. RV drivers should note that the final approach climbs a winding, narrow two-lane road into the Sauratown Mountains with some steep grades and tight curves, so larger rigs should take it slow and avoid shortcuts on back roads. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Piedmont Triad International (GSO) in Greensboro, with Charlotte Douglas (CLT) as a larger alternative.
