Late May through early October is the prime window, when Beaver Pond Campground is open and the park's swimming beaches at Lake Welch and Lake Tiorati are staffed. July and August bring the warmest lake temperatures but also the heaviest weekend crowds from the New York metro area. September and early October offer cooler hiking weather, thinner crowds, and strong fall foliage across the Ramapo ridges. Winter access is limited to day use, with the campground closed and many secondary roads gated after snow.

Harriman contains the first section of the Appalachian Trail ever built. Day hikers can pick up the white-blazed trail at several road crossings along Seven Lakes Drive, with RV-friendly pull-offs near Tiorati Circle. Expect rocky ridges and classic Hudson Highlands views.
Lake Welch has one of the largest inland beaches in New York, with lifeguards in summer and a spacious day-use area. The beach parking lot accommodates larger vehicles, and a bathhouse, snack bar, and picnic grounds are on site.
Lake Tiorati Beach sits along Seven Lakes Drive in the heart of the park and offers swimming, picnic pavilions, and boat rentals. The setting is quieter than Lake Welch and works well as a midday base between hikes.
Lake Sebago is the largest lake in the park and allows non-motorized boating and electric motors. Kayakers and canoers can launch from the boat launch area, and the surrounding shoreline has numerous coves and quiet inlets.
Pine Meadow Lake is a popular backcountry swimming hole reached via the Pine Meadow Trail from the Reeves Meadow Visitor Center. The round trip is about 7 miles over moderate terrain with stream crossings and rocky sections. Trailhead parking can fit smaller RVs but fills early on summer weekends.
Seven Lakes Drive is a scenic roadway that links Lake Welch, Lake Sebago, Lake Askoti, Lake Skannatati, Lake Tiorati, and connects toward Bear Mountain. The route passes trailheads, beaches, and overlooks and is well suited to RV touring.
Beaver Pond Campground near Lake Welch is the park's main drive-in campground and accepts RVs, trailers, and tents on a seasonal basis. Sites are wooded, there is a dump station, and the campground serves as a base for hiking and swimming elsewhere in the park.
Adjacent Bear Mountain State Park is reachable via a short drive on Seven Lakes Drive or US-6. Highlights include the Perkins Memorial Tower summit road, the Trailside Museums and Zoo, and Hessian Lake, with large day-use parking lots that accommodate RVs.

Thank you Wendy for the opportunity to travel the country. 💙 We had an amazing time and cannot wait to do it again. Wendy is an amazing person. She also allows flexibility with pick up and drop off. We highly recommend her for future rentals.

It’s a brand new vehicle in excellent conditions. The Mercedes van drives smoothly and easily and all the interior amenities and accessories are of very high quality (best pots and pans we ever had in an RV). It performs at its best when plugged in overnight as the fridge is spacious and energy hungry. We had a super time and would definitely rent again from Howard who is always available available to help and very responsive. Highly recommended

Harriman State Park, NY, United States
The park is about 45 miles north of midtown Manhattan, a drive of roughly one hour via the Palisades Interstate Parkway, which has a commercial vehicle ban that does not apply to private RVs but does restrict trailers over certain sizes. From Newark, NJ the drive is about 40 miles, and from Albany it is about 130 miles via I-87. RV drivers should note that the Palisades Interstate Parkway has low clearances and no trucks, so larger motorhomes and travel trailers often route via I-87 and US-6 to reach Seven Lakes Drive. The nearest major airports for fly-and-rent trips are Newark Liberty (EWR) and Stewart International (SWF) near Newburgh.
