July and August bring the warmest temperatures, reliable swimming conditions, and the best boating weather on Horsefly Lake, making them the peak months for RV camping. Late June and early September are strong shoulder seasons with lighter crowds, cooler nights, and easier site availability. Mid-September is the best time to see the brilliant red and green sockeye salmon spawning in the nearby Horsefly River channels. Winter access is limited and campground services are not provided outside the operating season.

A 1.2 km hiking trail leads to a view point above the lake where two benches offer a rest spot, with moderate hiking and some steep elevation changes. Trailhead parking is within the campground area, so RVers can walk directly from their site. bcparks.ca/horsefly-lake-park/
A roped-off swimming area and change rooms sit on the lakeshore, with a steep drop off to be cautious of. There are no lifeguards on duty at provincial parks. The beach is steps from the day-use parking area. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/horsefly_lk/
Horsefly Lake is a large, deep lake usually fished on a troll, and the area includes a number of smaller lakes excellent for fly-fishing, with rainbow trout a favourite pastime of many visitors. A provincial freshwater licence is required. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/horsefly_lk/
A single-wide concrete boat launch is located at the far end of the campground, with parking available for vehicle and boat trailers, including overnight. Waterskiing is a popular activity on Horsefly Lake. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/horsefly_lk/
There are paddling, canoeing and kayaking opportunities at this park. Calm mornings are best for exploring the shoreline before afternoon winds pick up on the deep lake. Launch from the boat ramp or hand-carry from the beach. bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/horsefly_lk/
Spawning channels on the Horsefly River just outside the community of Horsefly offer dyked paths for viewing sockeye salmon that travel up the Fraser River to the Quesnel River, Quesnel Lake and finally to the Horsefly River to spawn, with mid-September the best time to see the brilliant red and green fish. bcparks.ca/horsefly-lake-park/
There are snorkelling and scuba opportunities in Horsefly Lake, but no rental places nearby, so visitors should bring their own gear. The clear, deep water and forested shoreline make for unique underwater scenery. bcparks.ca/horsefly-lake-park/
I rented Jodi’s trailer in September 2025 and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. Jodi was very easy to communicate with—she always responded quickly, was kind, and went out of her way to be helpful. From the moment we picked up the trailer, it was clear she takes great care of it. The trailer was actually even nicer than we expected: very clean, comfortable, and well-stocked with everything we needed to make our trip smooth and enjoyable. We had a few issues on our end with our own truck during the trip, but the trailer itself worked perfectly and gave us no problems at all. It was reliable, easy to set up, and a great home away from home. Because of the positive experience and Jodi’s kindness, I would not hesitate to rent this trailer again in the future. Highly recommended!

Horsefly Lake Provincial Park, BC, Canada
The park is located on Horsefly Lake, approximately 65 km from 150 Mile House off Highway 97, with 55 km of the route paved and 10 km well-maintained gravel. From Williams Lake, plan on roughly 1.5 hours of driving via 150 Mile House and the village of Horsefly, while Kamloops is about 4 to 5 hours south via Highway 97. RV drivers should be prepared for the final gravel stretch, narrow shoulders, and limited services past Horsefly village, and should watch for wildlife on back roads. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is Williams Lake Regional Airport, with Kamloops and Kelowna as larger alternatives.
