Late May through September is the most comfortable window for RV travel, with warm days, long daylight, and full access to the Bighorn River paths and bison loop. July and August are peak months and the State Bath House and town can be busy on weekends. Shoulder seasons in May and September offer cooler weather, fewer crowds, and pleasant soaking conditions. Winter visits are possible since the park stays open year-round, but expect snow, ice, and limited services.

The State Bath House offers free public soaking in mineral water from the Big Spring. Indoor and outdoor pools are kept at a regulated temperature, and soaks are limited to a posted time per session.
A pedestrian suspension bridge spans the Bighorn River at the base of the travertine terrace fed by the Big Spring. Short paved paths lead along the terrace and connect with the bath house grounds.
A drivable loop on the north side of the park passes through pasture land where the park's bison herd is kept. Visitors should remain in vehicles and watch for the herd in the open range areas.
Paved and gravel walking paths connect the bath house, picnic areas, and viewpoints over the Bighorn River. The trails are mostly flat and suitable for casual walking.
Located in Thermopolis just outside the state park, the Wyoming Dinosaur Center features fossil exhibits and active dig sites in the surrounding hills. The museum has paved parking suitable for larger vehicles.
The scenic drive on US 20/WY 789 south of Thermopolis runs through Wind River Canyon along the Wind River. RV drivers should note the three short highway tunnels and check rig height before entering the canyon.
The local history museum in downtown Thermopolis covers the cultural history of the Big Horn Basin, the Shoshone and Arapaho treaty that ceded the springs, and area homesteading. Street parking is available within walking distance.

Hot Springs State Park, WY, United States
Thermopolis sits on US Highway 20 and Wyoming Highway 789, roughly 84 miles south of Cody and about 130 miles east of Jackson via Togwotee Pass. RV drivers heading north from Casper face an approximately 130-mile drive on US 20/26, while those coming through Wind River Canyon between Shoshoni and Thermopolis should be aware of the three short tunnels on US 20, which have posted height clearances that taller rigs must verify in advance. Mountain grades on Togwotee Pass and on routes from Cody can be steep, so check brakes and weight before departure. The closest commercial airports for fly-and-rent travelers are Worland (WRL), Riverton (RIW), Cody (COD), and Billings (BIL) in Montana.
