Spring months of March through May offer warm days, low humidity, and fewer bugs, making it the most comfortable window for RV camping. Fall, from late September through early November, brings mild temperatures, warm ocean water, and lighter crowds after Labor Day. Summer is peak season with hot, humid weather, afternoon thunderstorms, and heavy mosquito and biting-fly activity, so reservations fill months in advance. Winter is mild and quiet, though some amenities and programs operate on reduced schedules.
Cool and quiet; good for uncrowded beach walks.

The Hunting Island Lighthouse is a historic cast-iron tower that visitors can climb for panoramic views of the Atlantic, maritime forest, and surrounding barrier islands. A short walk from dedicated parking, it is the only publicly accessible historic lighthouse in South Carolina.
The park features miles of wide, gently sloping sand beach along the Atlantic Ocean. Beach access points with RV-friendly parking are located near the campground and day-use areas, and shelling is popular year-round.
The Lagoon Recreation Area offers calm saltwater for kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. Boardwalks wind through salt marsh with interpretive signs about the estuarine ecosystem.
One of the longest free fishing piers on the East Coast extends into Fripp Inlet from the south end of the park. The pier has a large paved lot that accommodates RVs and trucks with trailers.
The park includes roughly 8 miles of flat, sandy trails through maritime forest, palmetto groves, and boneyard beach sections where erosion has toppled trees along the shore. Trails connect the campground, lighthouse, and lagoon for a full-day loop on foot or by bike.
The Hunting Island Nature Center houses live reptile and marine exhibits and hosts ranger-led programs on loggerhead sea turtles, coastal ecology, and park history. It is a short drive from the campground with a small paved lot.
Kayakers and paddleboarders can launch into tidal creeks that wind through salt marsh, with frequent sightings of dolphins, wading birds, and ospreys. Rentals and guided tours are available seasonally from outfitters near the park entrance.
Easy pick up and drop off.

Hunting Island State Park, SC, United States
The park sits at the end of US-21 on Hunting Island, about 16 miles east of Beaufort, 70 miles south of Charleston (roughly 90 minutes), and 50 miles north of Savannah (about 75 minutes). Access is by paved two-lane highway with no tunnels, mountain passes, or significant grades, so most RV classes can reach the park easily, though the final stretch across marsh causeways has limited shoulders. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Savannah/Hilton Head International (SAV), with Charleston International (CHS) a second option. RVers should watch for low-clearance live oak branches in the campground loops and drive cautiously on the narrow park roads.
