October through April offers the most comfortable RV weather, with cool days, low humidity, and far smaller crowds than peak summer. Wildflower season from late March into April brings bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush along Park Road 4. Summer is the busiest period because of swimming and boating, so book sites well in advance and expect heat advisories. Winter is mild and shoulder-quiet, ideal for hiking and stargazing without reservation pressure.

Devil's Waterhole is a granite-rimmed cove at the north end of Inks Lake known for cliff-jumping, swimming, and paddling. Trailhead parking near the cove can fit smaller RVs and tow vehicles, but big rigs are better left at the campsite loop. Kayak and canoe rentals are available at the park store in season.
Pecan Flats is a roughly 4-mile loop that climbs across granite outcrops with long Hill Country views. The trail leaves from a day-use parking area accessible to most tow vehicles and Class B/C rigs. Carry plenty of water as shade is limited.
The Lake Trail is a flat shoreline path linking the campground loops with the swim beach, fishing pier, and park store. It is an easy stroll suitable for families and a convenient way to leave the RV parked. Expect mostly shaded sections with frequent lake access points.
Inks Lake is a constant-level Highland Lake ideal for kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, and small-boat motoring. A boat ramp and courtesy dock with adjacent trailer parking make it RV- and trailer-friendly. Rentals are available seasonally at the park store.
Anglers target largemouth bass, white bass, catfish, and sunfish from the shoreline, fishing pier, or a boat. No fishing license is required when fishing from shore inside a Texas state park. Multiple bank-access points lie within short walking distance of the campground loops.
This shorter loop on the park's interior winds through oak-juniper woodland and along a seasonal creek with exposed gneiss bedrock. It pairs well with Pecan Flats for a longer half-day outing. Trailhead parking is suitable for most tow vehicles.
Inks Lake's Hill Country setting and limited light pollution make it a strong stargazing destination. The open granite outcrops near Devil's Waterhole and the day-use areas offer wide horizon views. Bring a red-light headlamp and check the park calendar for ranger-led astronomy programs.
Park Road 4 is a CCC-era scenic drive linking Inks Lake with Longhorn Cavern State Park about 6 miles south. The cavern offers guided walking tours of a rare river-formed cave, with a paved RV-friendly parking lot at the visitor center. The drive itself is a Hill Country highlight, especially in wildflower season.
This RV was awesome! Joseph and Bekah delivered it and set it up. They even made the bed, provided linens/towels, pots and pans, dishes, a coffee pot…. We are cooks and their knives are better than ours! We will rent this RV again!

Inks Lake State Park, TX, United States
The park sits off Park Road 4 about 9 miles west of Burnet, roughly 65 miles (about 1.5 hours) northwest of Austin and 90 miles (about 2 hours) north of San Antonio via US 281. RV drivers should note that Park Road 4 is a winding two-lane route with rolling grades and tight curves between Inks Lake and Longhorn Cavern, so plan for slower travel and watch for low-clearance trees on shoulder pulls. There are no tunnels or major mountain passes on standard approaches. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers.
