Late May through early October is the prime window, when the campground is fully open, the river is navigable, and trails are dry. July and August bring warm, humid weather and the largest crowds, so reservations fill early on weekends. Late September and early October offer cooler RV-friendly nights and strong fall color along the St. Croix bluffs. Spring can be muddy and prone to river flooding that may temporarily close low-lying areas.

A short interpretive trail winds across exposed basalt bedrock to view the deepest concentration of glacial potholes in the world, including the Bottomless Pit. The loop is under a mile and starts near the main parking area with plenty of room for RV parking.
The River Trail follows the St. Croix along the base of the Dalles cliffs, offering close-up views of the gorge, excursion boats, and basalt rock formations. It can be combined with the Railroad Trail for a longer loop through the park.
This wooded route climbs from the campground area toward overlooks of the river valley and passes Curtain Falls when water levels are high. Expect moderate elevation gain and some stairs.
Interstate State Park is one of Minnesota's most popular traditional rock climbing destinations, with bolted and trad routes on the basalt cliffs above the St. Croix. Climbers must register at the park office before climbing.
The park provides a boat landing with access to the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway for canoes, kayaks, and small motorboats. Scenic paddlewheel excursion boats also depart from the adjacent Taylors Falls landing for narrated trips through the Dalles gorge.
Ranger-led programs and exhibits explain how glacial meltwater carved the Dalles and drilled the potholes into hard basalt. Schedules are posted at the park office during the summer season.
Anglers target smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, and panfish from shoreline access points and the park boat landing. A Minnesota fishing license is required and the river is shared with Wisconsin.

Interstate State Park, MN, United States
The park sits on U.S. Highway 8 in Taylors Falls, Minnesota, roughly 50 miles (about one hour) northeast of Minneapolis-Saint Paul and about 75 miles southwest of Duluth. Most RV travelers arrive via I-35 to Highway 8 east, a paved two-lane route with rolling terrain but no tunnels or extreme grades. The approach into Taylors Falls includes a short, steep descent toward the river and tight turns near the historic downtown, so drivers of larger rigs should take it slow. Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips.
