Late June through early September offers the warmest, driest weather, with long daylight hours and the best conditions for paddling and shoreline exploration. July and August are peak season, so reservations fill quickly on weekends. Jarrell Cove offers sheltered moorage with two floating docks and mooring buoys, making it a popular overnight stop for small boats. The calm, protected waters are ideal for kayaks and paddleboards launched from the shore.
Short trails and lawn areas lead to the park's saltwater shoreline, where low tides expose beaches for wading and beachcombing. Keep an eye out for herons, eagles, and the occasional seal near the cove.
Anglers can fish and crab from the docks or shoreline in South Puget Sound waters. A Washington State fishing license and current shellfish rules apply, so check state regulations before setting out.
The park's day-use area includes picnic tables, open grassy spaces, and views across the cove. It is a convenient base for lunch stops during day trips around Harstine Island.
The quiet cove and surrounding second-growth forest attract bald eagles, kingfishers, great blue herons, and a variety of waterfowl. Early morning and the hour before sunset are the best viewing windows.
The sheltered cove is well suited to paddlers of all experience levels, with launch access near the dock area. More experienced paddlers can explore the nearby waters of Pickering Passage along Harstine Island's shoreline.
Beyond the park, Harstine Island offers quiet country roads, small beaches, and nearby Harstine Island State Park for additional hiking. It is an easy base for exploring the rural South Puget Sound region.
We had such a great weekend camping in the Memory Maker! Danielle has thought of everything when it comes to making life easy while you are “roughing it”. We felt cozy and comfortable sleeping as a family of 5. It was easy to pull behind our Tahoe as well. Great experience all around, we already have our next trip booked!

Danielle is a great host! The trailer was wonderfully laid out and perfect for a family of four. It was very clean and everything worked perfectly! Our family had a great time and would definitely rent from Danielle again!

Jarrell Cove State Park, WA, United States
Jarrell Cove State Park sits on the north end of Harstine Island, reached by the Harstine Island Bridge from Pickering Road off State Route 3. From Olympia, the drive is roughly 25 miles and about 45 minutes; from Tacoma, expect 40 to 50 miles and around an hour; from Seattle, plan on about 80 miles and 90 minutes. RV drivers should note the island's narrow, winding, tree-lined roads and some tight turns near the park entrance, which can be challenging for larger rigs. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), about 70 miles northeast.
