Best time to visit Jenny Jump State Forest

Late spring through early fall, roughly May to October, is the best window for RV travel to Jenny Jump, when the campground is open and trails are clear of snow and ice. June and September are the sweet spot, with warm days, cooler nights, and thinner crowds than the July and August peak. Fall color in October is excellent across the ridge, though nights turn cold quickly and some facilities begin to wind down. Winter visits are limited to day use since the campground closes for the season.

Things to do at Jenny Jump State Forest

  • Summit Trail Moderate
    RV parking available

The Summit Trail is a short, rocky climb to one of the highest points in the forest, offering views of the Great Meadows and Kittatinny Ridge. Trailhead parking near the office accommodates small RVs and tow vehicles.

  • Ghost Lake Easy

Ghost Lake is a quiet glacial pond at the base of the ridge, popular for catch-and-release fishing, paddling small craft, and photography. Access is via a steep, narrow gravel road, so very large RVs should park at the main lot and drive a tow vehicle down.

  • Swamp Trail Easy
    RV parking available

The Swamp Trail winds through a shaded hemlock and hardwood forest past moss-covered boulders left by retreating glaciers. It is one of the gentler walking options suitable for most fitness levels.

  • Spring Trail to Ghost Lake Strenuous
    RV parking available

This connector trail descends from the ridge through rocky terrain and small springs to reach Ghost Lake. The climb back up is steep and best tackled earlier in the day.

  • UACNJ Greenwood Observatory Easy
    RV parking available

The Greenwood Observatory, run by the United Astronomy Clubs of New Jersey, offers free public stargazing programs on Saturday nights from spring through fall. The dark-sky location on the ridge makes it one of the best accessible viewing sites in the region.

  • Group Cabin and Shelter Area

Rustic cabins and shelters are tucked into the forest near the campground, which makes a convenient base for RV travelers hosting larger groups with mixed accommodations. The area also has picnic facilities and trailheads.

  • Appalachian Trail day hike from Delaware Water Gap Moderate
    RV parking available

The Appalachian Trail crosses the Delaware Water Gap about 30 minutes west of Jenny Jump, offering day-hike sections with river views. Trailhead lots at Millbrook and the Kittatinny Point Visitor Center have space for tow vehicles and smaller motorhomes.

I accept the charges as followed. However I do not accept charge for 4 days. I only had the vehicle for 3 days. I'd like to dispute the 4th day charged for 250.00

How to get to Jenny Jump State Forest

Jenny Jump State Forest sits off State Highway 519 near Hope, New Jersey, in Warren County, reached from Interstate 80 by exiting at Hope-Blairstown Road and following local signs to the park entrance. It is about 70 miles west of New York City (roughly 1.5 to 2 hours), about 80 miles north of Philadelphia (about 2 hours), and roughly 40 miles east of Scranton, Pennsylvania. RV drivers should note that the final approach uses narrow, winding county roads with steep grades into the campground loop, so larger motorhomes and long trailers will find maneuvering tight and tree clearance limited.
